After spending literally thousands and thousands of dollars at this shop they still ant remember who I am. I became fed up with the over crowded non existent customer service not to mention their outrageous prices. I will never ever set foot back in to their store I don't care if they expanded the parking lot and were giving away 200.00 Glocks this pale sucks!

My first visit to Nagel's and I must admit I was a bit concerned after all of the negative reviews on this site. That said, it was an excellent experience.

When I first walked in, the store seemed somewhat congested - with merchandise everywhere. Also, there were quite a few customers in the store, which only added to things.

There were three people behind the gun counter (I later learned there's more than one counter) and they were all busy with customers. My suspicion was that it was going to be a long wait to get helped. Within a few minutes, however, someone approached me and asked if he could help. I was looking for the Mossberg 930 SPX tactical shotgun and he did a good job of explaining the difference between that gun and others. The gun was reasonably priced for a brick & morter experience. I told him I wanted the gun and that I wanted a light attachment. He explained the differences and I picked a model, he then mounted the light and explained how and why he mounted it the way he did.

I then asked for tritium sites for my Glock, he provided them and had the gunsmith mount them while I waited (about 10 minutes). They also gave me a reasonable trade-in for a .32 pistol I brought along.

I felt well served, the sales-person even helped me get my gear out to the car. During the hour I was there, no less than 5 different people asked me if I had been helped or if I needed any help. In that light, I felt the customer service was outstanding. Again, it was an an all around excellent experience.

Nagels is a San Antonio institution. As such, ones singular experience there cannot and does not define the place. This is the gun shop that your dad went to back when you were coming up; buying your first .22 rifle, or a few boxes of .410 or 20 gauge to introduce you to sport shooting. Prices on some items are higher than the Internet...on others, like the Ruger .22/45 Lite I just bought there--spot on. But can you handle and feel an item on the Internet, much less pick up a few boxes of ammo or a Filson hat you've been promising yourself, all in one hour? Didn't think so.

So don't bother shopping at Nagels if you need a lot of hand holding from the moment you walk in the door. Go there with more than a few seconds to spare in your schedule and take a little time to look around and get the feel of the place. Introduce yourself and learn something new about firearms, clothing, or laser grips if that's your thing. If you don't get it after a visit or two, then you probably never will. Some gems are better if they are left in the rough.

Happy hunting

Awesome friendly service and as stated by others before no question is a dumb question, I'm still learning about the gun world and your associates are very helpful.

I just wanted to thank Tommy who works there for his wisdom and advice as well. I bought a Sig Patrol 516 from here 2 years ago and now I'm in the market for a matching FDE Sig Scorpion. Definitely coming back here for my purchase!

I've personally purchased seven handguns from Nagel's in the last two years. The good news is, they've been in business since the 40's so they are obviously doing something right. I realize for many (me included), customer service is #1.

I phoned Nagel's to get a quote on a gunsmith question and was put on hold for 10 min. I called back 5 min later and phone kept ringing for 2 min. I guess they don't need the business. Poor service!!

Took my deceased uncle's guns to Nagels to have them priced and they were very informative and experts in firearms it seemed and did not charge me a dime. They also were very knowledgable in each states gun laws which saved me from a possible felony if they hadn't informed me that one of the guns was illegal in California, where the beneficiary of the guns lives. Nagels is a serious gunshop and therefore so are the salesman....I feel safe at Nagels.... I go to olive garden for friendly lighted heart customer service not to a gunshop! Shotguns vs. Breadsticks hmmmm

Overall

Still the best gun store around, they have their excellent gun smiths that have worked on my Weatherby and Kimber firearms, still a personalized store and not a big box concept of some of the chain brands. To find a place that stands behind what they sell and honor the factory warranties of accuracy and reliability, sometimes it gets really busy in the store, but a little patience can go a long way in to getting the information and service you want.

I was in Nagel's yesterday and was assisted immediately with an ammunition purchase. The sales rep took the time to look for a specific brand and bullet weight in their storage area. While I was waiting I was asked by three other sales reps if I needed assistance. All questions were answered and the sale was completed smoothly. I proceeded to their knife cases and while looking was asked by two sales reps if I needed assistance. They were very helpful in looking for an out of production Gerber. I have been going into Nagel's on an occasional basis for 13 years and have never experienced anything to complain about. Almost all brick and mortar gun shops are going to be more expensive than their internet counterparts, but they also have a higher overhead.

Recently purchased a pistol, everything went quick and smooth, no problems. I have purchased reloading supplies in the past, they always seems to have what you need in stock.
