If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response in your small intestine. Over time, this reaction damages your small intestine's lining and prevents it from absorbing some nutrients (malabsorption). The intestinal damage often causes diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, bloating and anemia, and can lead to serious complications.
Pediatric Care

Primary Care
Your child should have a well child visit at the intervals listed below. We recommend that you call our office 3-6 months in advance to schedule an appointment with your child's primary care provider on the date that best fits your needs.
Ear Infections
Colds, upper respiratory infections, and URIs are common terms we use to describe viral illnesses that cause nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, fever, and cough. The fever usually lasts for 2-3 days, and the cough with congestion and runny nose may last for 5-10 days. The typical preschool-age child may experience 6-10 colds per year. Most colds resolve on their own with rest and fluids, but some may lead to ear infection, sinus infection, asthma attack, or other complications. If you are concerned about the possibility of one of these complications, please have your child seen in our office for an evaluation.
Emergency Care
We are well versed in asthma care. Generally, we are the place you should come for an acute asthma exacerbation (not urgent care or the emergency room). We will treat mild and moderate asthma in the office. If your child has severe asthma we will refer to a pediatric pulmonologist.

Our practice prides itself on efficiency through use of technology. You will be encouraged to consult our website, register for and use our patient portal, and effectively use automated reminders for appointments and for routine care/immunizations that are due. We also offer Telehealth appointments via the Spruce Health App, if that is more convenient for you than coming into the office.

Causes Your genes combined with eating foods with gluten and other factors can contribute to celiac disease, but the precise cause isn't known. Infant-feeding practices, gastrointestinal infections and gut bacteria might contribute, as well. Sometimes celiac disease becomes active after surgery, pregnancy, childbirth, viral infection or severe emotional stress.

If you have concerns of ADHD or ADD with your child, you can come to the office for an evaluation. We will have an initial consult to discuss your concerns. We will give you questionnaires for both parents and teachers to fill out and return for a follow-up visit. Sometimes diagnosis is complicated and may require a psychiatrists referral as well.

The mental health of your child is very important to us. Generally, we can help you in the office for childhood behavioral concerns. If a child suffers from depression or anxiety, we recommend that you start in our office for an evaluation. We will have your child fill out a depression screen and talk to your child and you.
Behavioral Health
We currently offer telehealth services. If you live very far away from our office or just plainly can't get in to the office to be seen, we can schedule a telehealth visit for you with Dr. Jill Weiner. These visits are best for behavioral health consults (depression, ADHD), but can also be done for any sick visit. We have done these visits for well visits during the height of the pandemic, but have found it to be more effective to do these visits in the office.

Sports Medicine
If your child is involved in high school sports, they will need a yearly physical and a form filled out to give to the school, for them to be able to participate. Your child's annual well exam includes this sports physical. Please bring the forms that you need filled out to the office either during your exam or within one year of your exam.
