Mary Ann Bilotti, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S. is an expert on biomechanics of gait, pediatrics and sports medicine of the foot and related structures. She is the new Chief of Podiatry at Franklin Hospital Medical Center in Valley Stream, NY. She is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Bilotti is a Fellow of the American College of Foot Orthopedists. A proud member of the Fordham University Hall of Fame, Dr. Bilotti was a former women's basketball legend. She has also been the team Podiatrist for Fordham University since 1981, and is a published author.
Diabetic Foot Care
John Haight, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S. has completed three years of residency training in addition to his undergraduate and formal medical education. His talents are as multifaceted as his training; with emphasis on surgery, diabetic foot care and systemic diseases affecting the foot. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot And Ankle Surgeons, is an experienced diagnostician and clinician, and is the Associate Director of L.I. Jewish residency training program.

Drs. Bilotti and Caprioli are a husband and wife professional team who have established an active referral based practice in Valley Stream since 1985. Dr. Bilotti completed her residency training with special emphasis on foot related orthopedics, sports medicine, and children's disorders. Dr. Bilotti is Chief of Franklin Hospital Medical Center Dept. of Podiatry and Team Podiatrist for Fordham University. Dr. Caprioli completed a residency in foot and ankle surgery and diabetic limb salvage. Both doctors are Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and Fellows of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (FACFAS). Dr. Caprioli is Head of the Section of Podiatry at L.I. Jewish Medical Center and Program Director of the North Shore-LIJ Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency Program.

Dr. Mleczko provides medical and surgical care at both NSLIJ and Franklin Hospital and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Patients are more anxious than they need to be about a foot or ankle surgery. One of the reasons is because they have false ideas about what surgery and recovery will be like.
Bunion Surgery
Bunion surgery is usually performed on an out-patient basis which means patients get to go home on the same day of the surgery. Many of our patients start walking on the operative foot within a few days and can return to work within a short period of time.

Bunions if left untreated, not only can become painful, but can become progressively worse. Although wider shoes, padding and custom orthotics may slow down this progression, surgery is the only way to correct the bunion deformity.
Gangrene
The incidence of diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate" states Dr. Caprioli, Chief of Podiatry at LIJ. "There will be an estimated 18.5 million diabetics in the U.S. by the year 2000." As members of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, we are acutely aware of the consequences of this devastating disease." As podiatrists, we are constantly faced with the struggle to save feet and limbs from gangrene, ulceration and infection. By providing preventative medicine and patient education, diabetics can greatly reduce their risk for limb and foot amputation. Unfortunately, the effects of diabetes are multi-system and can not be completely controlled.
Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma or genetic factors.

Corns
What happens, is that the bone connected to the big toe starts to drift outward pushing the big toe sideways into the other toes which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns and calluses.
Ulcer
The patient was placed in a pressure relief walking cast to limit weight on the ulcer site. His blood sugars were tightly controlled. The wound was debrided or cleaned surgically with a scalpel blade at weekly intervals. The photos shown are taken weekly. This ulcer was closed completely in 8 weeks using a platelet derived growth facor and good wound management.

The fungus likes to grow in warm, moist places like your shoes. Many patients pick up fungal toenail infections in the gym locker room, from a nail salon, wet shoes or from trauma. Fungus can stay in the nails for many years and can be passed from one person to another. Treatment for fungal toenails includes topical and oral medications, which used together are very effective.

Custom foot orthotics should not be confused with over the counter “arch supports”. These devises are custom fitted for you and your family at our office either by cast or foam impression or 3-d computer scanning. Orthotics are designed to correct abnormalities of gait and to decrease painful pressure on overly stressed joints, bones and ligaments.

Marzana Mleczko, D.P.M., F.A.C.F.A.S.completed an intensive 3rd year of surgical training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park NY, after completing two years of residency training at Coney Island hospital. She is Board qualified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and ABOPPM. In addition, Dr. Mleczko is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and skilled in all aspects of foot and ankle care for both children and adults. She also is fluent in both Polish and Russian.
