Dr. Gunther founded Westside Podiatry and began our family. He has greatly enjoyed watching us grow throughout the years. He is American Board of Podiatric Surgery certified in ankle arthroscopy. He has been in practice for over 25 years. Dr. Gunther was born in New York. He is very loved by our patients and staff. He possesses a witty sense of humor. He is down to earth and makes our patients and staff laugh on a daily basis. Our patients love the care they receive after having surgery performed. Foot Orthotics
Within the arch of the foot, firm, nodular masses may form. These can occur as a single mass or in clusters. They are called and are a non-cancerous tumor that forms within a ligament in the arch of the foot called the plantar fascia. Frequently, they will slowly enlarge causing pain while walking. Their cause cannot always be determined. Damage to the tendon will cause their occurrence and there is an association with taking the drug Dilantin. In 10% of the cases, patients will also demonstrate similar lumps in the palms of the hands called Dupuytren’s Contracture.Treatment consists of padding the area to reduce pressure. Functional foot orthotics will take the strain off of the plantar fascia ligament and sometimes cause the fibromas to shrink in size. Cortisone injections are of little value and may even stimulate the mass to enlarge or spread. Surgical excision of the mass requires removal of most of the plantar fascia. Simple excision of the mass without removal of the entire ligament generally results in recurrence of the mass. Whenever surgery is contemplated, the patient should wear a functional foot orthotic following the surgery. The orthotic helps to accommodate for the loss of the plantar fascia and its effect on foot function (See surgical excision of plantar fibromas).
Plantar Fasciitis
Janey is Dr. Gunther’s right hand person. She has been Dr. Gunther’s podiatric medical assistant for over 12 years. Janey is our head medical assistant in charge. She is relied upon to make sure our patients have everything they need during their appointment. Janey assists Dr. Gunther with skin grafting for wound care, in office surgeries, and scanning Dr. Gunther’s patients for their custom orthotics. Janey also holds years of training experience with our Laser Nail Restoration, which is for the treatment for nail fungus. She also holds years of experience with Shockwave Therapy treatments, which is a non-invasive treatment for plantar fasciitis. Janey is also our head licesnsed x-ray tech. She can answer any questions you may have regarding the two. She can offer you a consultation and/or treatment of either. In Janey’s spare time, she lives out her passion for caring for and playing with her young children. She is a great mother and is always there for her children in all the sports and activities they are involved in. Dr. Gunther is licensed to practice in the state of Texas. He is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is certified in ankle arthroscopy. Dr. Gunther prides himself in using all the current modalities available, including in office digital X-rays, non-invasive vascular studies, as well as the shock wave technology for heel pain. His current hospital affiliations include Methodist Willowbrook, Cypress Fairbanks, and North Cypress Hospitals.
