Overall

I ONLY use National. Always the best cars, choices and service. My wife is automatically a driver with National so I don't have to pay additional or both be present when we rent. A real plus. Picking up the rental and dropping off is fast and easy. Being able to choose ANY car is a such a great feature. I recommend National to all my fellow travelers! Thanks.

Great car in great shape. Very fast check out, no waiting time to return car with no need to wait for anyone to give me the receipt. Their "take any car you like" checkout was a little confusing because I was expecting the various car classes to be in different areas but they were all in one place on a snowy day in Detroit. They said I was free to take an SUV or any more expensive car at same price, which I did not expect. The guy said the SUV would drive better in the snow, so that's what I took. I had used Priceline to book so was very happy with the low price.

I wish I could give the place a great review but I can only give good review on this trip. I am a Emerald Club member and while I may not know all the rules, I prefer not to be treated like an idiot from the front desk group. The drive from the airport to the lot was ok. The car selection was horrible and very hard to understand what I can get (No mid-size cars were even available). The car itself was ok (but come on - in what universe is a Kia Soul considered a full size car). The check in process was great, fast service and very friendly. My Company change from Avis to National and I wish they had not.

I travel to many locations in the US. The experience with National in Detroit is outstanding. For a major airport, the ease in which you can get from the terminal to your car and on the road is excellent. I travel to detroit monthly and look forward to the personal greeting as you get off the bus.

I am an Emerald Club member. I travel to Detroit several times a year and always rent from National. Every time I step off the bus, there is always someone there to greet me. In the summer, they offer bottles of water. Service on the return is just as good. I would recommend National Car Rental to anyone traveling to Detroit.

National is an EXCELLENT car rental agency! I am not "Executive" level yet, but I am treated like I am. I like personalized service and convenience. National does both very well and they always make me feel like they truly value my business. The car selection is the best I have ever encountered with ANY agency. I will always be a loyal National Emerald Card-Carrying customer.

I am an Emerald Club member and I have always been given excellent treatment by the staff at this location. With my rental the week of Thanksgiving, the attendant went over and above to accomondate us for the type of vehicle we were looking for. Can't beat the service and rates you get when you are an Emerald Club member!!

Performs as expected, until you report something lost.



Pros: Pickup from the Airport, Shuttle back to Airport, Friendly staff, easy to find (via road signs) location, clean & fully-fueled cars.



Cons: (Related to lost & found reporting) Customer Service via email and phone a bit off. I left an email reporting a possible lost item and received an immediate 'not found' response. I also left a Voicemail with the local office and was told "sorry, this vehicle was already put back in service. But we'll double-check if it's in the car."



A definitive Yes or a definitive No would have been more reassuring. Instead I'm left with waiting until the car is returned (and assuming it was indeed left there) and hasn't been recovered by the driver who asumed the car after me.



Overall, still a fan of National, as it relates to performing their primary duties (paperwork, terms of service, etc.) but not impressed by how they triage lost and found.

Great Customer service - water and snacks when we arrived at Emerald Island to pick up. At drop off it was even better because it was quick and we were able to get an agent to drive us to the airport in the vehicle as my husband is handicapped and could not handle the bus and needed to get to the wheelchair pickup location. By the way the vehicle we selected was spotless.

Wow, Snacks & an Upgrade

We arrived and the associate had water and granola bars. I told her I needed a third row she told me I could take the Tahoe from the executive class. We all left very happy!

Quick shuttle service. Shuttle drivers are always friendly and helpful. Love being able to go straight to the aisle, pick a car and go. Easy and fast drop off and return as well.

I use National rental car as part of my company's preferred car rental service and am an emerald club member. All of my rentals thus far have been good, except for the last time out of Detroit (at DTW). I rented a car that was clean but had a very strong and unpleasant odor. It may have been that a customer smoked in the car but I should have noticed that at a late night pickup of a rental, with this car being the only car left out of all mid-size sedans, there was something negative about it and people were staying away for a reason. This was a rental that I had to keep the windows slightly open while highway driving to keep from becoming ill. For vehicles like these, I would prefer for National to take them out of the rotation until the they could be further cleaned. Overall, National has been a good provider of rental cars for me and makes the process near seamless (i.e., straight from the shuttle bus to the car and on return, from the car to the shuttle bus... no office visit required).

I always rent from National and use the Emerald Club. This time in Detroit I had a choice of many Chrysler Town & Country vans-not too exciting! The pick up was uneventful and the car was clean (except the inside of the windows). The turn in was very frustrating as I followed the cones to the National side of the facility and after a few minutes a worker told us that cars were only being accepted on the Alamo side. After moving the car the turn in was uneventful. We had to wait between 5 and 10 minutes for a return bus. Other customers on the bus asked for the driver to depart for the terminal as they were running late. The driver said that she could not leave until a another bus was there to pick up customers - not sure why we had to wait! The driver contacted her supervisor who approved the departure. Most National locations around the country have the driver assist the customers with bags - in Detroit the drivers sit in the drivers seat...maybe a chance to improve?
