Overall

I lived in the Lafayette Lofts for two years, during which time my garbage disposal never worked, half of the washing machines and dryers for the building broke, the elevator went out daily, the roof leaked in multiple places and the place developed a pretty serious cockroach problem. These things happen in old buildings, which is completely understandable, but management's response to any of these problems was seriously lacking. Upon reporting a problem, I got an, "Okay, we'll get right on that," but they didn't follow through much of the time.

What really irked me though was what happened after I moved out. It took three and a half months for Boydell to cough up the security deposit I was rightfully owed. I called multiple times after the 30-day window had passed, getting a different run around each time. "We'll be sending your check out on Monday," "I'll leave a note on the door so they'll know to send it out right away," etc. Then it was, "Our system shows you didn't pay all of your rent," which spurred me to go and mark on my bank statements each and every check the company cashed each and every month over the two years. I brought all my documentation down to the main office in the Russell Industrial Center, and lo and behold, they never even asked to see any of it, because that reason wasn't remotely true. They went ahead and wrote me the check.

The point of the story is, they tried their darndest to keep my money for as long as they could. They don't answer the phone, these alleged "notes" they promise to leave on someone's door are a farce and Boydell Development is in my experience just all around unprofessional.

Carl could attempt to make things better all the building needs is a litle love and care ! The manager Carl appears to be useless in management and makes it his goal NOT to do anywork evrey day he arrives and it takes him forever to do or request to fix simple repairs . They could enforce the noise control a little better. The look is ok and its close to the heart of downtown. Overall I give it a low 7 score out of 10 .

Old but sweet

The best place to live in the downtown area. The manager is excellent and the atmosphere is friendly, jazzy and homey. The lofts could be updated a bit, but overall the best place to live in the "D".
