        The Oldest Coin Shop in Charlotte

        General Info
        Hyatt Coin Shop was started in 1959 by William (Bill) E. Hyatt, retired Staff Sergeant of the U.S. Army. Coin collecting had been a passion of his, and his two sons Larry and Terry Hyatt would help him search bags and rolls as well as travel to the nation's capitol to pick up bags of Morgan Silver Dollars in the 1960's. The Hyatt Coin Shop was successful due to Bill's hard work and passion for the hobby, and soon began to expand. Part of the expansion of the store was due to the addition of other product lines - namely Firearms. In the purchase of a large coin collection that Bill Hyatt made, there were included some old Winchester Shotguns. After researching the guns and becoming interested in the history of Firearms, Bill obtained the necessary licenses to engage in the trade of firearms, and soon the business began to boom. Larry Hyatt, Bill's oldest son, came into the Coin & Gun business and took the business to much higher levels. Larry now runs the store, and Bill still frequently works in the coin department. Under Larry's management the store has expanded to over 200,000 square feet, and has become one of the largest gun stores on the east coast. The coin shop is still going strong, and Larry has enriched its inventory over the years, giving his customers a wide variety of coins to view and add to their collections. Terry Hyatt, the younger of Bill's two sons, worked in the store for quite a few years, specializing in military collectibles, before moving about an hour outside of Charlotte to run his father's Cattle Farm. Many fine military collectibles are still bought and sold at Hyatt Coin & Gun Shop. Larry's youngest son, Mitch Hyatt, has recently come into the business, and has renovated the coin department, expanding it to reflect the renewed interest in the hobby spurred by the Statehood Quarters and rising metals prices. Adding active Want Lists and some Consignments to the Coin Shop's list of activities, Mitch has created a more fluid coin shop where inventory rotates often and the coins desired by customers are quickly found. Mitch is a graduate of the American Numismatic Association's Grading and Counterfeit Detection programs, and can help you find the coins that meet the exact standards that you desire.         Have shopped and attended classes at Hyatt for many years, not a big spender but a few thousand $$ over the years. Experiences have been very good with the best experiences from the firearms purchase perspective. Like their website and (email) newsletter/sales alerts.



        Hard to beat them for selection, including used items - even when they negotiate. Staff is generally helpful but be sure to ask your questions and best to support with your own research.

        I've been to Hyatt's several times as I like to do a lot of homework before making any purchases. I've never received anything except terrific service. Hyatt's staff really wants to help their customers make a well-informed decision. Great selection and fair prices on guns too! I'd recommend..

        I had a great experience at Hyatt. I came in looking for a 9mm and they had a great sale on handguns. Steve quickly helped me even though the story was completely packed. He allowed me to hold as many guns I wanted until I felt comfortable with my purchase. He was very knowledge about brands and features that would be best for me. I will definitely be back for my next purchase !

        I bought an M1 Carbine (USGI) from Hyatt Gun Shop in October 2010. The rifle was in excellent condition. The receiver was made by IBM and all parts are genuine USGI parts. The Carbine has a flip safety, bayonet lug and a type two magazine catch that was designed for 30 round magazines. This is just what I was looking for. The price; $650.00. Try to find a quality USGI M1 carbine for that price today. The salesman, Woody, was great and very knowledgeable. Since I live in another State, I had to have the rifle transferred to my local FFL gun dealer. The shipping cost was only $29.00 and the rifle was received by my FFL dealer within 5 days of the purchase date. You can not beat the price, the quality or the service that I received from Hyatt Gun Shop. Since I have owned my M1 Carbine, I have put about 1,000 rounds through it. This rifle is deadly accurate even out to 300 yards. Thank you Hyatt Gun Shop.

        I just made my second purchase through them. I don't live in Charlotte, but they treat you as if you're standing in the store. My first purchase was a Benelli M1 S90 used and it hasn't failed me, great price too. The second was an Arsenal SGL 21 new and it arrived in a timely manner considering it was Thanks Giving week. BTW these are selling for about $200 more then I picked it up for:) Great customer service and good people, this is what a gun store should feel like.

        I think, Larry. Older guy who always wears overalls, country folk. He never tried to sell me anything but he didn't seem bothered when I had 100 questions about a rifle, so I felt it was right to say something good about him.

        Great place to do business. Very helpful and trained employees. Was helped as soon as i walked in. Told the guy what i wanted to pay and what is was for and he hooked me up. He walked me through how to operate the gun and how to take care of it. The whole transaction was painless.
