Dr. Stevens is caring, he goes the extra mile and if he's not there the other vets that I've seen are just as wonderful.

Dr. Lacie Lee is excellent, along with everyone else that works in the office. I have really built strong relationships with everyone here, and they treat us like family every time we're there.

Sherwood South has sent numerous kittens are cats to the local shelter instead of actively trying to get them adopted or find a foster home for them. Baton Rouge's shelter is a kill shelter and once they get dumped there, are prey to disease and death. Thanks Sherwood South.

I just read a review titled Rude Staff and it caught my attention. I've been stuggling with this clinic only because of the horrible customer service at the front desk...and I couldn't believe the name Jeanne was mentioned in that review because she is exactly the person I told my husband about! She is completely off-putting could care less about her job and honestly, she made me have reservations about even dropping my dog off there! She should not be working with people much less animals, I don't understand how someone so void of a personality could be still working the front desk of any business whatsoever.

I dont want to focus completely on Jeanne because a couple of the other girls aren't much better. I know fellow animal lovers want to feel like their pets are in loving, capable hands and this is not the impression that it given. We sincerely worry and fret about the problems we're having to deal with when we bring them in, and it just magnifies the problem when you have stone-faced rude workers as the greeters. I cannot figure out why these caring doctors would allow this behavior.

My experiences with the doctors have been great and I get the feeling my pets are in the best care, however it is dreadful to have to even call this place to make an appointment or reservation for boarding because they make it obvious they do not have time for your phone call. I hope they get a grip on this issue soon..I would hate to part ways with these capable doctors due to the incompetence of their staff.

Our family has been through a lot of pet health problems/issues and we take them seriously, it would be nice to feel as if your pet is being taken seriously when bringing them in for treatment.. It just doesn't seem like too much to ask for the reception at your Vet to at least act like they care about animals!

I have never had a bad experience at Sherwood South Animal Hospital. One time I had a dog staying there, and the staff let me in after hours to take her for a walk. Those are the things that stand out to me and keep me coming back. They are always willing to help. Thanks for everything you do.

Rude staff

Our dog had surgery here for bladder stones last year and aside from the price we were very pleased with everything. Since then we've gone back to buy his prescription food each month. However, yesterday I called to ask about their grooming services. The girl on the phone was pleasant and just simply mentioned that it was priced by weight of the dog and I should drop him off first thing in the morning. I brought him in and had the misfortune of getting the rudest girl at the front desk to help me. She was very unpleasant and made me feel like she would rather have been anywhere except at her job, helping me. She then informed me that they do not do professional grooming but can only do a surgical shave. So, I explained that I called the day before and asked about services and no one mentioned that to me. This did not seem to matter to her at all. There was no apology, just a "well.... I don't know who you talked to. So what do you want to do?" While I was sitting there trying to think of what my options were and if I wanted to bring him somewhere else she offered no help but instead just made me feel like I was stupid for something that was originally their mistake. I eventually decided to just let them shave him because his hair was very matted in spots, anyway. It wasn't until the young man from grooming came out to grab him that I got some answers. He was much nicer and said he would do his best to trim the hair on his head and tail without shaving it. However, because of that one girl I felt completely awful when I left there and had resolved to send my husband back in to pick our dog up at the end of the day so I would not have to deal with these people again.

As the day went on I received a couple consultation phone calls from the woman working on our dog in the grooming department. She was beyond polite and very helpful. And she was able to elaborate on the vet's policies, unlike the original girl at the front desk. After dealing with her I felt much better about the experience and had no reservations about going back when it was time to pick up our pet.

When I got there it seemed to be the same thing all over again at the front desk. There were a lot of girls sitting around mostly talking/gossiping about their personal lives since they didn't seem to have anything work related to do. Then the girl who I had dealt with that morning came back out front, acting like she was about to get off the clock. She pulled out a bag of new clothes she had just bought and started showing them off to the other girls while I, a paying customer, was standing right there.

My overall impression of the establishment, mainly due to this one rude girl named Jeanne, is that the whole front staff is just a group of young incompetent girls who really don't care much about professionalism. Which is a shame because these girls are the face of the company. In spite of the great work of the veterinarians and the woman who groomed our dog, I truly never want to go back there.

I will never be bringing any o...

I will never be bringing any of my animals here ever again. the service here is outrageously priced, the staff is rude and treats you like you dont know a thing. My wife and I brought our cat here to see what was wrong because she couldnt stand up we were afraid that she had injured herself. when we get there they tell us that just to get into a room and talk with a vet is $94.50. i thought that this was outrageous and wanted to walk away right then but we care to much about our cat to just not get her help. after talking with a vet 5 different nurses came in and told us that there was nothing they could do to help with the cost of anything but that the cat would need xrays and blood work done plus the cost of the office visit, so to just tell us exactly what was wrong with her would cost us almost $500. when we told them we didnt have that kind of money they told us "well there is nothing we can do for your cat then unless you have money" we left with our cat and now have to find another vet who will hopefully be able to work with us on a price or payment plan. seeing as how this vet just took literally the last dollar to my name. on top of everything else the nurses started to argue with me and my wife when we asked them why our cat would need a steroid shot, one nurse told us outright "i dont know" and another simply said because thats what she needs and left the room. this place might look nice one the outside and at the front but the people who work here are uneducated, money hungry , and wouldnt know good customer service if it slapped them in the face. NEVER bring your pet here.

MONEY IS THE FOCUS!! I wish t...

MONEY IS THE FOCUS!! I wish that I could recommend this facility, but I cannot. In late October of this year I had an emergency situation with one of my female Shih Tzu. She was in labor and looked like she was going to need an emergency cesarean section. It was nearing midnight on a Saturday night, so my only options were emergency vet facilities. When I called Sherwood South, I was informed that I could bring her in, but that the procedure would be $1800.00 and that I would have to pay 1/2 up front and the other half when I picked her up the following morning. Not having all of the $1800.00 handy, I asked if they would just turn her away and let her die. I was informed that they didn't want her to die, but if I didn't have the money that they could not provide services. In my opinion, this is a perfect example of a facility were $$$, rather than the best interest of the animals, is the driving force. The good news is that I found a wonderful facility that didn't even ASK about money up front. They just took her in, performed the section, and worried about the money afterward . . . And the total cost was approximately half of what Sherwood South quoted.

Fantastic clinic! I took my Great Dane in on emergency basis 3 times within one week, and the care my dog received was exceptional! Not only were the staff professional and warm, but the veterinarians were such a pleasure to work with. They work around your schedule, and really do their best to make sure your pet is comfortable and happy. If you're looking for a clinic to take care of your pets, you shouldn't look no further!!

Great Place!!!!

My experience at Sherwood South Animal Hospital has been nothing short of excellent. In the past few months I have taken my cat here and the vet that has been seeing her is Dr. Thayer. He has been extremely helpful, answered all of my questions, helped me find a type of food suitable for my cat, etc.

The facilities are very nice and super clean. I also like the fact that they will schedule appointments as late as 5:30pm on weekdays....this gives me a chance to bring my cat in after I get off work.

The ER facility is a nice bonus. I hope I never have to use it but it's nice to know they have this if something ever does happen to my cat.

I don't know why people are complaining about the prices being high. I mean with a nice state of the art facility like this...you should expect that. You get what you pay for. I would rather pay more and have my pet being well taken care of then to go somewhere cheaper and get subordinate care.

In essence: Great facility. Great staff. Great service. Highly recommended!!!

Very pleased--this is the best state of the art vet clinic

I do understand that veterinary clinics, like clinics that serve human beings, do have their own costs, employees, benefits, etc., it is unrealistic for them to not be concerned about collecting for the care they provide. If you want cheap, go sit all morning at AVS, where I doubt your dog is monitored when surgery is performed. My dog had surgery here at Sherwood South. I do not think any other place actually has them on a cardiac monitor, and actually addresses their PAIN post op as well as they did. My dog had complicated cruciate surgery, which Dr. Stevens is one of the few who does this procedure. She healed completely and beautifully. As for boarding, God how can anyone be displeased with a place where there is now a 24 hour presence of staff? I love the fact they have the extensive diagnostics they have. Why go to EArl K. Long, when the Cleveland Clinic for pets is right here in B.R.?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful place to board your pets!

I board my pets there at least once every couple of months and have never had any problems. My pets are always excited when I drop them off.The Veterinarians and staff are the best in the Baton Rouge area and are always quick to address any concerns that I might have. When I call to check on my pets the kennel staff always puts me on hold while they go check on my pets so I know, that they actually go and check on them.I ALWAYS board my pets here and never have a problem with anything.

DON'T BOARD YOUR PETS HERE!!!

My pets recently boarded at Sherwood South Animal Hospital.I called several times to ask how many times pets there got walked.I got different answers, some people said 2 times a day and some people said 3 times.Somebody is not telling the truth and they need to get their facts straight.I talked to one of my friends that is in vet school and used to work there and she confirmed that they only got walked twice. If they would have told me that from the beginning then I would have never left my pets there,I would have boarded them at Petz Plaza or somewhere else where I knew for a fact that they were getting walked there 3 times a day even when they were very busy. When I picked up my pets after 3 nights they both smelled like pee! My dogs NEVER have accidents so I know that they were not walked 3 times.I was also told by my friend that the employees don't even board their own pets there because the kennel staff is incompetent. They don't feed pets their own food so don't even bother bringing it,they don't give them their own treats and they don't even leave the TV's on at night in the luxury suites even though you are paying for it.If you are planning to board your pets here DON'T.Their veterinary services are wonderful and I would never take mt pets anywhere else but I WILL NEVER BOARD MY PETS THERE EVER AGAIN.If you know anyone who has ever worked there or that works there I would ask them about their boarding facilities and I'm sure that they would tell you the same thing my friend did.It seems like they would have enough employees to walk the pets 3 times a day whether it was a holiday or not.If they don't get walked 3 times a day ALL THE TIME then don't lie about it or tell your employees to lie about it.From what I've heard they also cram pets into small kennels all throughout the hospital when they are overbooked.Next time you want to board your pet during a holiday I would ask for a kennel tour and a hospital tour to make sure your pet isn't crammed in a small carrier when you are paying for a run.DON'T BOARD YOUR PETS HERE!!!

Won't be going back!

This place looks amazing and I am sure the doctors are very qualified just like many others. However, they aren't very helpful with anything unless you are paying them money. We moved here a few months ago and our dog had been on heartgard every single month without him missing at all. We had our previous vet fax over all of his records which showed that our pet was up to date on all shots and tests and that he had been on heartgard, however they refused to sell us the medicine because he had not had any of his tests or shots done there. That is rediculous because they had proof that he was up to date, yet they would have rather made him go without the medicine he needs because they are money hungry. I agree with the other reviews that said they are money hungry and about the absurd charges. We went to Helouin on Airline and that is the BEST place you could go. Dr. Phillip is the best vet we have every had. They sold us the medicine we needed and did not charge us for a visit. You can call Dr. Phillip and he will personally answer any questions without the generic "you need to bring him in" answer just so they can charge you for a visit. My advice is avoid these greedy people and go to Helouin! They are much cheaper and are AWESOME!!!

Great Hospital/Emergency Care

My three golden retreivers have been seeing Dr. Stevens and Dr. Lee for years. They have such a friendly and helpful staff and the Vet care is always peosonal and complete from head to tail. Now after waiting many years they have 24/7 emergency care. Now I can feel great day or night when my dogs need Sherwood South Animal Hospital!

Worth every penny

Our pet is one of the family, when tiger got sick and no one could tell us why he wasn't getting better we were reffered here. they were able to pin point the illness and diagnos and treat. The doctors were very knowledgable and compasionate with our situation, also up front about all test and cost associated with the tests. If you love your pet this is the place to have them cared for. thanks again Sherwood South, see you soon.

Money Hungry!!!

This place is horrible. They want to charge you just to walk through the door! The price for JUST an examination, not including ANYTHING else they would need to do to your pet, is $54.50!!!! That is outrageous!! Then, they told me that my pet needed a heartworm test so I asked the price of that and they said it was $45.00, they said it was $25 for the test and $20 just for an office visit! I asked what is included in an office visit and they said nothing, that it was just a charge for the pet to be there! I have never ever heard of having a cover charge just to go through the door at a vet's office! Needless to say, I will not be going back there. I refuse to take my pet to a place where all they care about it how nice their facilities look and trying to charge every penny they can out of someone, especially in an economy like we have right now! Save your money! Find someone else who actually cares!!!
