As residents of this community, we have been to the Spice of Life on several occassions. Yet, our recent experiences have finally broken us of our practice of "give them one more chance". Spice of Life has had one too many "one more chance".
It had been several months since our last visit when the breakfast meat (bacon) was perhaps a little too aged. It tasted rancid. Our server said that there had been a few complaints that day, but offered no recook or replacement. However, it didn't prepare me for the most recent experience. I ordered an almond encrusted chicken salad. Actually, I really wanted a salad. The chicken was just a bonus for what I really wanted... good fresh lettuce and all the accrutaments.
After moving the chicken around, I saw that all of the lettuce was yellow! All of it! I meantioned it to our server who left the table and wasn't seen until he brought the bill. His consulation as I looked a plate of yellow lettuce? He took $2 off our bill. Actually half of that was for a steak which was way overcooked!
I spoke to the owner who said that all of the lettuce that day was yellow. No apology. No offer to make things right. Just "see you next time". Not likely. When the local produce isn't adaquate, alert the customer, take an item off the menu... make it right. After 3-4 second chances, there will be no return visit.
Proceed with caution.

I eat at the spice of life on a regular basis, the food and service is always great, and portions are always large, the Chef always has specials that I love to try, sometimes I don't like the items they have made, but the food and presentation are always excellent. Prices are reasonable, the food portions don't ever let you go home hungry. I have found over time that I have a few favorites that I tend to order over and over, but the servers always tempt me with the specials, and sometimes I give in and try them. It is a small place, and the atmosphere is very Christian, and very calming and peaceful. I can spend hours reading the stuff on the walls, and the cards on the tables. I highly recomend this restaurant to anyone living in the Athens area, or traveling thru.
