Overall

I find it hard to know where to begin when describing how awful my experience was at the Yarmouth Irving auto repair shop. Having taken my vehicle to a variety of other garages before, never have I seen such a lack of customer service or for overall service period for that matter. Here's the situation, my Pontiac G6 was making a rattling noise and occasionally stalling out in Yarmouth. Not knowing the area, but always noticing the high volume of cars in the shops vicinity, I thought it would be a better choice than the VIP down the road (-kind of wish I went there now).

I brought the car to my girlfriend's parents house in the area and I gave the shop a call. The person I spoke with seemed in a hurry to get me off the phone as soon as possible, which is understandable being a high volume garage. At the time, I thought I needed to get the car towed; a service the man told me that was provided with a fee of $70.00. In the rush of getting me off the phone, the man merely told me to bring it in the specific day, but no time was given and He never asked the make, model, or year nor the problems I was having with it to begin with. He took my phone number and that was the last I heard from him. The next day, I checked on my car and the problem was almost completely gone. I drove around the block several times and everything went fine; no stalling. There was a slight rattling noise, and I thought I would get that checked out. I was able to drive the car directly to the shop without the towing service. The drive went relatively smoothly. Walking in the facility, I was immediately taken aback by the uncleanliness and disorganization of the business. With little other options, I pressed forward and left my car in their hands. I left the auto shop at 10:00AM.

I was beginning to worry around 2:00 in the afternoon because I hadn't heard anything regarding the wellbeing of my vehicle. My girlfriend called to check in and was told the engine parts were causing the rattling and that it was on its way out. They didn't offer any solutions to this issue… just that they were done working on it.

My girlfriend and I went to pick up the Pontiac shortly there after. We entered hell. There was many different people, mechanics, I assume, just standing there blankly. The owner was on the phone with their credit card service company trying to deal with the fact that the shop was no longer able to accept credit cards because they allowed their service to expire. My girlfriend and I stood there for what seemed like forever because he was only one out of 3 employees that was trained to work the cash register while this man was on the phone. FINALLY, one of the standing men asked the boss if I owed them any money…. Since estimates have been free in every garage I've ever been to, I thought it would be the same here. Clearly, I was wrong. I spent $37.50 for a half an hour of the boss's time. That being said, we were finally able to take the car home. My girlfriend drove the car home and ended up getting half way back to Portland before the car just died completely. She said the sounds and the smells from the car were something very new. The slight rattle was now a death rattle. Soon she was stranded on the side of route 1. I picked her up and we called a tow truck.

In summation, Yarmouth Irving might be a good place for locals to get their oil changed or headlight fixed, but if your car has a real problem, I suggest you go elsewhere unless you want them to make the problem worse.
