Overall

We've lived in Camden for a while and finally decided to try Hall's last night. We expected country cooking in a older atmosphere and that's what we got. As soon as we walked in the door, the hostess greeted us with a horribly rude "up there" and made a vague gesture with her hand. We didn't think she was speaking to us (how can you greet customers like that?) but then she repeated "up there" even ruder and louder, snapping at us. I almost walked out but we hadn't eaten all day after traveling and were very hungry. We sat down in the first booth available and looked around. The place is clean, if dated, and the waitress came to our table quickly. She is the only reason this restaurant has one star. She was great, made us feel welcomed after the rude hostess, was very sweet and helpful. Just because it is on the menu does not mean they are willing to make it in the kitchen, by the way. The food came out of the kitchen quickly and had adequate portions. We ordered the chicken fried steak and the special, chicken and dumplings. The chicken and dumplings were good, but covered in flavorless chicken gravy. The chicken friend steak was so bland that I had to douse it in salt and pepper and even considered adding ketchup to give it some flavor. While we were eating, a gentleman on the other side of the restaurant had a question about the menu. His waitress got the hostess who went to his table and promptly yelled at him, for everyone to hear! He was properly embarrassed and turned red. It was quite uncomfortable. Be advised- this restaurant does NOT take credit cards of any kind. This is written in very small print under the open hours listing. There is an ATM on the premises but it has well over a dollar surcharge. If you aren't going to take credit cards, as most places do now since it's so unsafe to carry cash, at least have a free ATM. I may have given this place two stars for the terrific waitress and filling, if awfully bland, food. Sadly, we were both awake late into the night in the bathroom with cramps and such. We will not be returning, and I hope you think twice too.

Terrible

Breakfast was terrible. I will not be going back. One word of advice to the cook... use some seasoning.
