Do not use Children of the Heart Adoption Services



We used them for a Kazakhstan adoption in 2010-11 and though we did finally return with a child we felt the agency was less than capable in following through with all their promises and quoted statistics. At one point we even had to bring in outside assistance to move our dossier (and six others) through the Kazakhstan consulate. Children of the Heart never even acknowledged our contribution to their program for this.



We also felt nickel and dimed through the whole process. This was one of the most expensive agencies when we signed up and kept getting more expensive (and less productive) throughout the 15 months we worked with them. Our total cost related to this agency exceeded $30K and yet they still had no problem sending bills for less than $5 to cover postage for sending documents. Also, they constantly bombarded us with solicitations about fundraisers as well as for “donations” to keep their program afloat.



Finally, on February 07, 2013 Children of the Heart Adoption Services sent us a letter informing us they will not be returning our $500 deposit to ensure we completed our 3rd post adoption report. Their excuse was “…times are tough for everyone, but we are just unable to keep up with the increased fees and expenses…”



Though the agency refuses to respond to our emails regarding this situation, we are left to assume that since Kazakhstan is now closed to adoptions, there is little incentive for the agency to incur any more costs for this program. Apparently their business ethics are okay with stiffing their clients and keeping the deposits entrusted to them.



In short, based on our experience Children of the Heart Adoption Services may be able to arrange a successful adoption for you but it will cost you much more than you expected. No matter what they tell you, Children at Heart Adoption Services are new to the domestic adoption field. There are hundreds of other agencies that are much more experienced and can be trusted with your deposits.



No matter what, do not give Children at Heart Adoption Services any money that you expect to get returned to you. No matter what agreement you have with them.
