Plantar Fasciitis
At our practice, Westfield Foot and Ankle, we treat a lot of heel pain or plantar fasciitis. Many of the symptoms include pain when you first get up in the morning, burning, numbness and increased symptoms by the end of the day. The pain is usually caused by tightening of the plantar fascia ligament located on the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia ligament supports the arch. When you're resting, the ligament contracts. As you start to walk, the ligament pulls and may tear slightly causing pain. Heel pain can also be brought on by trauma, over exertion, ill- fitting shoes or poor foot alignment.

Dr. David Sullivan is a native Hoosier that returned to Indiana to start Westfield Foot and Ankle, LLC. After practicing for several years in Illinois, Dr. Sullivan left a thriving practice to start a completely new practice catering to the ever-changing population of the City of Westfield and Hamilton County which is a wonderful place to live and raise children. Dr. Sullivan received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University/Bloomington and his degree in Podiatric Medicine from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago which is now affiliated with the Rosalind-Franklin School of Medicine. Dr. Sullivan completed residencies in both Podiatric Surgery at Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System in Tucson, AZ and Primary Podiatric Medicine at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. While practicing in Illinois, Dr. Sullivan became Board Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also a Certified Wound Specialist and a Fellow of the American College of Certified Wound Specialists and a member of the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care.

Bunion Surgery
Bunion surgery is usually performed on an out-patient basis which means patients get to go home on the same day of the surgery. Many of our patients start walking on the operative foot within a few days and can return to work within a short period of time. It is our objective to get you back on your feet as soon possible.

Ingrown Toenails
An ingrown toenail occurs when a corner of the nail grows into the flesh of the toe, causing redness and swelling, followed by pain and often infection. Ingrown toenails can occur due to improper trimming of the toenail, trauma or genetic factors.

In either case you should come in for an evaluation to let us determine if these conditions warrant treatment. Foot or ankle Melanoma (cancer (malignant tumor)) are often missed or diagnosed too late. We see these conditions every day in our practice and we are equipped to diagnose and treat these conditions quickly and effectively.
Corns
People with hammertoe may have corns or calluses on the top of the middle joint of the toe or on the tip of the toe. They may also feel pain in their toes or feet and have difficulty finding comfortable shoes. Causes of hammertoe include improperly fitting shoes and muscle imbalance.
Ulcer
2/16/21 A painful and scary venous stasis ulcer brought me to Dr. Sullivan after a nurse practitioner and an ER doctor told me the hospital was my only option. Dr. Sullivan was easy, confident and had a cheerful attitude upon seeing my ulcer. He looked right at it and cleaned it up. Dr. Sullivan has the magic touch!

What happens, is that the bone connected to the big toe starts to drift outward pushing the big toe sideways into the other toes which can also lead to painful hammertoes, corns and calluses.

Fungus
Fungal toenails are caused by an organism that grows in and under the nail. The fungus likes to grow in warm, moist places like your shoes. Many patients pick up fungal toenail infections in the gym locker room, from a nail salon, wet shoes or from trauma. Fungus can stay in the nails for many years and can be passed from one person to another. Treatment for fungal toenails includes topical and oral medications, which used together are very effective.
