Vientiane

This little restaurant tucked away in a strip mall is, in my estimation, one of West Sacramento's best-kept secrets. One family owns and runs the restaurant, they know their customers, and they provide some of the best Lao/Thai food in the area.



It's not difficult to get good Thai food in Sac, of course. And Vientiane does a great job with Thai classics like Tom Yam Gung and Pad Thai. But they also offer something different. The Lao influence (the restaurant is named after the capitol city of Laos) is best sensed in their Lao sausage, something of a signature dish at Vientiane. Redolent with lemon grass and galangal, this deep-fried pork sausage manages to be simultaneously rich and light. And the stuffed chicken wings are unlike anything I've ever experienced at a Thai restaurant, including during my stay in Thailand.
