Facility

nurse here abused my autistic child and threw a massive fit because he wouldnt do exactly what she said when she commanded him very rudely. Most people speak to their dogs better than the way this woman spoke to us and we were very kind

In my own opinion: Horrible experience .... I experienced horrible staff and incompetent providers. They had a horrible bedside manor with us. They list things in your chart to cover up or down play there own medical mistakes to place blame on the patient. A few of our favorite examples from our stay: There nursing staff "accidentally" gave out a medical diagnosis after a procedure and they stated that we refused to see a pulmonary doctor about the results (when we actually requested to see one after there slip, all afternoon/evening/night and then the provider never came in to discuss results before I was discharged). Staff running down to our car as we were trying to leave. Nurse insisted that I still had there heart monitor pack on because "i was still up on the screen showing a heart rhythm." The pack had been taken off the previous day and given to another patient. They just didn't update the new patient name on there monitor. We had many more experiences like this our whole stay. This is advertised as a full-service hospital. Not even close. They have to ship you back and forth to the main hospital for a vast majority of procedures and tests. Will never go back, even if I'm dying!

I have never been treated so poorly!

I Want to start off by saying that writing this review honestly pains me. I have always looked up to Mercy Hospitals, hearing nothing less than fantastic things about their level of care and bedside manner...how things have changed. 2 weeks ago my roommate and friend came to the hospital with a high grade fever and was admitted. it was a urinary tract infection easy enough to treat or so you would think.they managed to nearly overdose him on pain medication because of a faulty conversion that no one caught.after 2 days of being in outer space the patient himself stopped all of his medications and asked to be told anything they were giving him.he figured it out all by himself that they were slowly but surely overdosing him and all the doctor came in and said to him was we're sorry for the mistake, and that's all. So after a week in the hospital thinking he was only there for a day tonight he takes me to the emergency room because I'm coughing with such awful chest congestion i was nearly suffocating. they got me back into a room almost immediately because I had such a high heart rate. the nurse precedes to poke me again and again attempting to put an iv in, unsuccessfully. Then proceeded to make extreme judgements based on my past medical history. then as if it couldn't get any more embarrassing she asked me to pee in a cup for her. Remember I came in because I couldn't breathe I was coughing so hard and in this whole entire ordeal not one person lifted a stethoscope and listened to my lungs, not one! I walked out with my head held high, stopped at Walgreens got some mucinex dm and I am cough free while I write this review. P.S. I would have given them no stars but that isn't an option. So heads up patients!

4th floor nurses

The 4th floor nurses are not in a hurry to do anything. You can complain of chest pain and they don't call the doctor they diagnosis them selves. It took 8 hours for them to contact the doctor and get a new drug for nausea after the one being used never worked. Then the nurse stated the pain meds were causing the nausea but never had the pain meds changed to something the patient could tolerate. Wake up night shift nurses and do the job you are getting paid to do. You are suppose to be the voice of your patient and do what you can to make them comfortable. If that means waking up the doctor at 3am then thats what you should be doing. You don't leave a patient in this kind of pain and with nausea for 9 hours before you get a new order for med changes. This was my first experience with Mercy West and I will not let my loved ones be admitted to this hospital again. I was very disappointed in the care that was given. My hospital stays will be at Iowa Lutheran Hospital or Methodist.
