Planning a wedding is supposed to be the most exciting time of your life. When you and your future spouse are choosing all the minute details from flowers to where you will be married. If you are like a lot of people these days you may choose a destination wedding. That’s exactly what my fiancé and I chose to do this past June.
We went online and looked at all the different wedding planners in the Charleston SC area. This is where we found CIBI Events. There were many positive reviews found in all the places where we were directed to look. I wish I would’ve contact a few and spoken to someone directly.
We hired Christina in June and paid ½ of her whopping 8K deposit for her to help us plan a wedding for September 29, 2018. I will say I felt very pressured to sign her forms. We were told that we “Might lose that date” if we didn’t get it done ASAP even though the wedding was almost a year and a half away. I truly felt like we were capitalized on due to our anxiety.
Fast forward to August 2016. Just two months later there were circumstances that caused us to cancel the wedding all together. She had not yet secured a venue or a vendor, and our only interaction at that point was a total of about 4 or 5 emails and a few phone calls.
We contacted Christina and let her know about our crisis. We thought it would be fair to recoup half of the initial deposit considering the advanced notice we gave her and the little work she had done so far. She informed us that she wouldn’t be able to refund ANY of our deposit! In all actuality, we spoke more with Christina after we had to cancel then during her time as our “Wedding Planner”.
I think it is important in business to do the right thing for customers. It isn’t fair to take advantage of people in what is supposed to be an exciting time. Be careful who you choose and be sure. I would tell you in my opinion CIBI events would NOT be the firm I would choose.
