I have never had a bad experience here in over 10 yrs and having multiple pets cared for. I trust Dr Shane West with all my exotics. I HIGHLY recommend this veterinary/facility above all others I have used in Jefferson & Shelby counties.

Well, Dr. Mandy is not the doctor that was disciplined by the State Board for the poor care of the dog that the kennel manager pummelled with a metal pooper scooper. The kennel manager was "big boy"..."man", and the dog was 30 pounds. Yes the dog bit him, (a puncture wound that required no stiches) but the sweet, beloved family pet was in fear for his life after being abused there the night before. The morning of the brutal attack, the one by the kennel manager that is, the family pet was going ballistic in his cage. (in fear of being abused...again!) This is a fact, since there is a necropsy report to prove it. You want to hear more...just wait...you will. DO NOT TRUST THIS FACILITY. If you had a good experience, consider yourself lucky. If you have not had a good experience, please come forward. The community deserves the truth.

Best Care Anywhere!

i came here to get the phone number cos my cel is charging, but when i read these awful, slanderous, heresay-soaked, lie-spreading 'reviews', well, i just had to come to the defenses of my buds down at VAC!!

i met them when my best friend, CharlieChan Pyewacket fell ill one year after i came to Birmingham, and they were recommended to me by one of the nice ladies that does feline rescue and rehab. i firmly believe that everything that was humanly possible was done for CharlieChan before he died. in addition, i have been many times to the 'back', where i was invited to spend as much time as i wanted to with him while he lived. and that's just one of many instances that demonstrate their kindness and attention to the animals in their care.

fast forward a couple years to a kitten ; Kabuki developed FIP, one of those horrid conditions where something mutates into something else, and when they get it, it's already too late!

EVERY vet there tried their best to help him every way they could, but at 11mos. he succombed anyway. all of them expressed their sympathies to me, and helped me understand the grief that his surviving furry family members would be going through. this is not the behaviour of uncaring staff!

at last, we got a rescued Keeshond, a beautiful, good tempered girl that had seen her share of abuse at the hands of dogfighters and the teeth of fighting dogs. the wonderful vets at VAC, particularly Dr. Mandy who joined the crew just before Aruba joined us, taught me how to help Aruba regrow her coat, make her arthritis feel better, and 3wks after Aruba came to us, Dr. Mandy answered my frantic call at 8:40pm to help me counteract the chocolate that Aruba had eaten before i came home from work! several times she helped me get Aruba out of one sort of trouble or another-- chocolate, car accident, you name it.and the vet was the first to notice--while Aruba was boarding there during our vacation-- the cancerous tumor that would 30days later take her life. she impressed upon me the urgency of getting Aruba's noggin looked at, and helped me prepare for the limited time we would have left together. as soon as they heard what happened to her--the surgery was successful-- my beautiful, sweet, Aruba had a stroke during a thunderstorm, and had to be euthanised due to paralysis of her entire left side.

So, no, I'm not gonna just sit here and let some nutjob run down some of the best vets on the planet with their idle talk. i read all the previous reviews, noticed the syntax in each one, and in all the defamatory ones, the terms are the same, and i believe firmly that they were all written by the same person under different user names. the same narrow person that can't remember the correct name of the veterinary establishment-- there's one nearby that sounds similar, another one in Vestavia-- so they just launch off and write these scathing reviews hoping to get attention. if the story even happened anywhere, it would surprise me; so no, i don't believe it would even be possible for it to have happened there.i've been in the back, unannounced, too many times, and i've never called or come in when there wasn't a vet onsite--7am to 8pm-- so that part of the story can be discredited too. i've worked with cruelty officers in Birmingham and Atlanta, and i've helped put abusers in jail. this warped, defaming individual wouldn't know Jack if they were formally introduced.

And to the rest of you folks looking for a great team of vets with fair prices and wonderful bed, um, crateside manner, feel free to call on my personal friends at VAC for the Best Care Anywhere, cos that's what your pets will get!

ALERT!! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET HERE!!

A WONDERFUL, LOVING PET WAS KENNELLED HERE ONLY TO BE BEAT TO DEATH BY THE HANDS OF ONE OF THE WORKERS. THIS WAS A VERY VICIOUS, VIOLENT ATTACK. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS ALONE HERE! I WONDER, WHY THE VET WAS NOT THERE, HOW MUCH DID THIS LITTLE ANIMAL SUFFER BEFORE ITS DEATH? WHY WAS NO ONE THERE TO HELP THIS POOR ANIMAL, HAD TO BE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER FACILITY JUST TO DIE. DO THEY NOT KEEP A VET ON STAFF AT ALL TIMES.....HMMMMMM

TAKE YOU BELOVED PETS ANYWHERE BUT HERE!!!!
