General Info
Sean Elliott is a medical doctor who specializes in pediatric infectious disease. He takes care of children from birth to age 18 with any sort of infection, unexplained fever or uncontrolled inflammation. Using a collaborative approach, Dr. Elliott believes that every patient and every family has a story to tell, which means he focuses on listening to that story. “I feel strongly that any relationship with a patient must be a collaborative, team effort, in which I serve as an informed partner to help the patient achieve health,” he said. Dr. Elliott originally pursued a medical career to create and apply science to the clinical care of patients. That motivation grew into a deep desire to have a positive impact on the health of children by giving them a new lease on life after helping them recover from disease. “The life and potential of children is awe-inspiring,” he said. “And I am honored to take part in empowering a child to realize their full potential in life.” Being a father, as well as losing several family members to disease taught him compassion, understanding and empathy in his medical career. Dr. Elliott earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1993, followed by a pediatric residency at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University School of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Washington State University School of Medicine. He made his way to Tucson in 1999 when he was offered a job at the University of Arizona. He and his wife loved the culture and feel of Tucson, and made it their home. He has led a prestigious career as a doctor, a professor and an associate dean. He led local efforts to prepare for special pathogens such as Zika virus and Ebola virus. Aside from working as a physician at TMCOne, Dr. Elliott is an Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona and serves as the director of research, Scholarship and Quality Improvement for the Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program.
