Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
For reasons mentioned above, this an extremely important step in preventing those pesky “in between the teeth” cavities. I see floss as simply a vehicle to get toothpaste between the teeth and get out any plaque between the teeth. After, flossing, you’re done… Go! No Rinse!!! Don’t eat or drink 30 minutes after you brush!! This doesn’t only apply when you were a kid getting fluoride treatments. This applies EVERY DAY!!!

Veneers
For patients who don’t fit specific tooth position or color requirements for LUMINEERS, Dr. Ryan reserves the traditional “prep and temp” method of porcelain laminate veneers. With this technique, patients may achieve a beautiful smile in weeks. Extreme color or space discrepancies of original teeth can be eliminated, leaving a naturally appearing white smile.
Crowns
Crown Lengthening. One of the most important, yet difficult to explain procedures in dentistry. Think of it like a banana. Say you peel a banana half way and discover a brown mushy spot mid banana extending down below the peel. In order to remove the brown spot, you must first peel back to peel to expose it. In this analogy, the banana is the tooth, the peel is bone, and the brown spot is decay. If you’ve got decay that extends below the gum line to (or below) bone level, then you must first remove bone (“pull back the banana peel”) to expose the lesion. This allows a more isolated, clean field. The dentist, then, can cleanly place a filling, crown, or other type of restoration without the obstruction of bone, bleeding, tissue, etc. The dentist (me) is “lengthening” the “crown” of the tooth by subtracting bone. I’m not REALLY lengthening the crown, but increasing the exposed part of the crown by removing the surrounding bony support.
Bridges
In my opinion, long term, implants are the most ideal form of treatment for tooth loss. In contrast to bridges, an implant offers a bone anchored, free standing support for a tooth; whereas, a bridge relies on the support of the adjacent teeth. Implant crowns and bridges have to be replaced less often, the patient can floss on either side of an implant crown, and it is more hygienic.
Dental Bonding
The two most common types of “restorations” for small nooks (ie. when there is less than 50% of tooth structure lost) are Amalgam or composite fillings. Amalgams are the “silver” looking fillings (as seen to the right) which, yes, contain mercury. Composites or “Resin Bonding” are tooth colored fillings that can be matched to an almost exact color of the tooth. Ninety five percent of the restorations I do in my practice are composite bonding.
Restorative Dentistry
5) After ZOOM is completed, the teeth will continue to whiten over the next 2 weeks! I have always been very careful not to proceed with matching shades or cosmetic or restorative dentistry until the ZOOM color has settled. Also, when a patient leaves the office following ZOOM, I describe the teeth as being like a sponge that has been dried out. Since the very micro-surface layer of the enamel has been removed, the under surface enamel, microscopically, is like a bunch of dehydrated tubes ready to suck in any liquid it can get its hands on. Therefore, you do NOT want to drink anything like RED WINE, DARK COLORED SODA, COFFEE, TEA, RED FRUIT PUNCH, or ANYTHING that has a pigmentation to it. If you do, your teeth WILL TURN THAT COLOR!!!! I’m serious about this! Be careful!!

Root Canal Treatment
“Root Canals” get a bad rap. You will probably think I’m crazy for saying this…. But, in my opinion, the “Root Canal” is one of the most peaceful procedures in dentistry.

Periodontal Surgery
In many practices, moderate to severe periodontal conditions may warrant a referral to a specialist called a “Periodontist” to perform a procedure called “Periodontal Surgery”. Periodontal Surgery is when an incision is made along the gum line, the tissue is filleted back (like you are peeling an orange) exposing the naked roots and immediate bone surrounding the tooth, all tartar is cleaned from the roots using methods explained above, bone is sometimes ground away to remove irregularities or defects, then the tissue is sutured back to a higher level on the tooth, thus, reducing the pocket and exposing the roots as so the patient may again clean them.
Deep Cleaning
Scale and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning) is the the traditional treatment. Its the process of removing the calcified Tartar (or “Barnacles” as I like to call them) from the base of the periodontal pocket. This can be done in two ways.

Dentures
One of the procedures I have come to love in my practice is making traditional dentures. There is no question that many dentists hate this procedure. The reason for this, I believe, is twofold.

In the case of dental implants, there is a big advantage in having the same person place the implant who is going to ultimately restore the implant. This way, the placement is done with the foresight of how the teeth are going to function and look esthetically.

Tooth Extractions
Crown lengthening is a MINOR surgical procedure. It is no worse than a simple extraction or deep cleaning. I make a small incision next to the tooth, reduce a small area of bone with a round diamond bur and place suture. Very Simple. Then, after 2 weeks of healing, the crown or filling may be done.

Invisalign Orthodontics
Today, beyond his extensive education, Dr. Ryan attends continuing education classes regularly as so the practice will continue to offer the most current and advanced techniques available. Since in private practice, Dr. Ryan has become laser certified, Invisalign certified, Lumineers certified, and mini implant certified.
Braces

Teeth Whitening
The results are dramatic. It is very rare that I can’t see an obvious whitening change with my patients. There really isn’t a whitening system out there that will produce a more dramatic result. Most of the “dental office” chair side systems are about the same. I personally like the ZOOM system because it has been around longer, is well advertised, and has more supporting studies.
