5M Civil performed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis (H&H), design, permitting, and construction services. The drainage analysis consisted of updating the City of St. Petersburg SWMM model for an urbanized 1,775 acre watershed. Project challenges included minimizing coastal mangrove disturbance, land acquisition for optimal stormwater treatment, multi-use recreational trail features, and water quality flow path optimization. Project features include in-stream diversion weir, triple barrel 12’ x 10’ box culverts, 120’ long concrete spillway, multiple low flow water quality control structures to distribute treated runoff across an adjacent mangrove forest. The project construction cost is $4.8 million.
On November 11 2009, the Garden Montessori School in the Wesley Chapel area of Pasco County opened its doors as a Certified Green School, becoming the first preschool/day care center in both Florida and the United States to receive this distinction. However, prior to receiving this award 5M Civil investigated how to keep existing buildings and trees while still accommodating current access, parking, landscaping, buffer and stormwater management standards. 5M Civil performed all civil site planning and permitting from Pasco County, SWFWMD, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
