As an OB, they are very set in their "Standards". They don't consider individual situations and patients, or what is best for them. They won't change the way they do things for anything! I would NOT recommend them unless you're OK with having them dictate your entire pregnancy, labor and delivery.

I had a really bad experience with Sumter OB. I always waited a really long time, like over 30 mins. They always blamed it on a miscarriage. The staff wasn't friendly at all, just like cogs in a machine. I did have a good midwife there, but she is no longer with them. When I got pregnant a second time I had a miscarriage and they were so cold & matter-of-fact. Nobody even said the word miscarriage & it seemed like the whole staff knew before I went from the ultrasound room to the exam room. I did not like them at all & would never reccomend them.

I highly recommend Sumter OB GYN to anyone who has discovered she is pregnant. I had a wonderful experience, if you can choose, be sure to ask for Doctor Triz Smith or Tonia Stevenson. Both of them are the most wonderful caring individuals you will ever meet in the medical field. They probe you for questions and take their time and listen to you and offer you advice and show humanity and gentleness during exams. They are the ones I met most often so not commenting on the other doctors is not a slight on them, I am sure they are all just as wonderful, doctor Lathem did an exam on me once and was very wonderful and personable. So I am sure that all the doctors are wonderful. I consider my pregnancy and labor/delivery to have been a breeze. I never got any morning sickness and after a labor lasting less than 8 hours I delivered a perfect little girl. I attribute this to the care and comfort I got from Sumter OB GYN throughout the whole pregnancy.
