Recreation Department is one of the departments of the city of Summit located in N.J., and provides recreational and maintenance services. It is responsible for the maintenance of city parks, open spaces and buildings, and safety standards and requirements. It also operates the Summit Recreation Center that has more than 7 acre area comprising a gymnasium, meeting rooms, basketball courts, and baseball, soccer and softball fields. The department offers residents, private and nonprofit organizations various recreational and sporting activities, such as camping, skiing, karate classes, tennis and swimming lessons. It additionally operates various recreational facilities, such as a nine-hole Summit Municipal Golf Course, Summit Community Pool and Wilson Park that offer aquatic games for children and families. It also offers summer camps, chess clubs, and basketball and golf instruction classes for boys and girls with the aid of professional trainers. Recreation Department additionally provides educational programs in an interactive learning environment for children of ages 4 to 6.
