July 28th was my 60th Birthday. It was a lonely day. My brother was in the hospital very i'll on life support and I spent the day mostly alone. My bother would usually go to Denny's for a free Birthday breakfast on his Birthday. I was always to embarrassed to do that. So all day I kept thinking about doing it. I looked on line and sure enough it said "Get a free Grand Slam for your Birthday just bring your ID show it to your server and get your free grand slam. So I kept thinking "Okay I'll go" then "No, I will be too embarrassed" Finally I got the courage to go, I drove to this Denny's, on Pacific Ave in Stockton, sat in my car getting the nerve to go in. I went in sat at the counter. because I was by myself. Boy was I ever embarrassed. The sever came over to me and I handed him my ID and said, "I would like the Birthday Grand Slam" He said, "You have to have the print out." I said That is not what it says on line, it just says bring your ID." He was loud enough for other customers to hear and I just wanted to crawl under the counter. I wished I hadn't gone in there. He wasn't sure what you needed and kept on it saying, "You know, you go on line and they give you something to print out, A certificate, or coupon thing?" He says loudly. "We don't do that anymore with just an ID." "Wait," he says and he goes and gets some lady who talks to me like I am some scamer or criminal. "No! No!" she says loudly with a foreign accent. "You have to have certificate, comes in mail to you." I say "That is not what it says on line." There is a couple at the counter watching and listening to it all. The lady manager says, "Now you want to order something?" I just got up, picked up my ID and couldn't get to my car fast enough. When I got in my car I just cried and cried. I was so embarrassed. Maybe there was more going on with me than the bad Denny's experience, to cause me to be so upset, and driven to so many tears. But my grandparents were Restaurant Owners and raised my brother and me to always use Kindness with others, because you never know what might be going on in someones life. They were so big on kindness that they taught us, when someone is treating us unfairly to "Kill them with Kindness." More often than not, this would have a good out come. Even if we were being talked to unkindly they insisted that we respond with kindness or not at all. What is wrong with those people working at Denny's? My grandparents would have never treated even the most difficult customer, with such rudeness and disregard for their feelings. They would never tolerate an employee embarrassing a customer in any way, like they did me. It would have never happened. My grandparents Restaurant was busy from the minute they opened their doors to closing time. They had a waiting list for tables everyday in their restaurant. Every table was filled as long as they were open with more customers waiting for a table to come available. Maybe aside from their food being excellent their customer service was a great tribute to their success. Something Denny's should take as example for a successful business. Now my Grandparents have been gone for a long time, but their teaching of the importance of kindness lives on and Yes kindness does go a long way. It can be the root to success. And the lack of kindness can destroy a business and can break a spirit. Don't tolerate unkindness in your business or in your life. Being unkind is not good business.

I dont have a problem with Tim, the guy with the hats. But I DO have a problem being lied to. Ordered the all you can eat pancakes and AFTER I ordered the first refill was told that all you can eat means no more than 7 pancakes. Now I wasnt going to eat more than seven but if I am hungry enough to eat more then I dont get all I can eat. I can understand restrictions apply. I figured it was like a time limit so you dont sit and eat pancakes all day or that you cant take any to go. But their restriction is that you CANT have all you can eat pancakes when THATS what they charge you for. Go to Chuck's down the street. If you can eat seven of THEIR pancakes you have a career in professional eating in your future.

Bad Service 0 stars

The guy with the stupid hats is annoying and the lady's are rude. Today I found a hair in my food and when I told the lady at the register all she says was sorry i'll let the cooks know. She never left the register. I will go to the other one from now on.
