Dr. Rosemary Melrose has practiced optometry in Stockton with her husband, Robert, since 1982. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University and, as a student at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Melrose performed vision research linking color vision loss to diseases such as glaucoma and diabetes. She served as an Assistant Clinical Professor on the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry and developed an academic course to teach interns how to apply their knowledge to address patients’ needs. Dr. Melrose cares for patients of all ages from the very young to the very old, and especially enjoys working with families.
Ophthalmology
Lions Eye Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving sight by providing no cost eye surgery, eye medication, and other medical eye care to low income people without medical insurance living in Northern California and Nevada. All services are provided in San Francisco at the Lions Eye Clinic/Sutter CPMC Department of Ophthalmology. Hotel lodging is also provided for those patients who need an overnight stay in San Francisco.

Laser Eye Surgery
Dr. Robert Melrose has been in practice with his wife, Rosemary, in Stockton since 1982. In addition to his practice in Stockton, he taught at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry for 10 years as an Assistant Clinical Professor. For 17 years after that, Dr. Melrose was affiliated with Griffin and Reed Eye Care where he specialized in the screening and postoperative care of over 25,000 LASIK refractive surgery cases. He rejoined the teaching faculty at UC Berkeley in 2011 where he operated the Refractive Surgery Clinic alongside his dear friend and colleague Dr. Kathy Tran. Dr. Melrose retired from teaching in 2015.
Cataracts
Cataracts, a common vision problem especially prevalent among older adults, are characterized by a clouding of the eye's natural lens. This can lead to a variety of vision complications, such as blurred vision, difficulties with glare, and trouble seeing at night. While the development of cataracts is often seen as a natural part of aging, there are certain preventive measures that can slow their progression and keep your eyes in the best possible health.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract occurs when the lens in the eye becomes cloudy and causes vision to become cloudy/foggy, dim and blurred. Everyone, at some point in life, will be diagnosed with cataract. People with diabetes tend to be diagnosed with cataracts earlier in age and the vision gets worse faster. Cataract surgery will remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial one.
Eye Exam
An adult eye exam at Brookside Optometric Group includes a complete evaluation of your visual health and prescription. While distance vision remains stable for most people during their adult years, many will experience changes in their near vision, requiring correction for tasks such as reading or computer usage.
