We are proud to offer equine dentistry and provide care for your horse’s entire oral cavity. A horse’s teeth and jaw function are vital to their overall well being, so dental care is an important part of your horse’s health.
Vaccination
Many different types of vaccinations are available for horses. Since every horse has a different lifestyle, it is important to discuss vaccinations with us. Some horses travel and are surrounded by lots of other horses while others simply stay at home. Your horse may need certain vaccinations due to where they live. There are many diseases that are more prevalent in certain areas. By discussing your horse’s vaccines with us, you can make sure that your horse is adequately protected without over-vaccinating him or her.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
We are also here for any problems that you have with your horse’s eyes. We can diagnose and treat many conditions including the most common: eye infections. We also see cherry eyes (where the red of the eye is visible), glaucoma (high intraocular pressure), cataracts, and much more.
Comprehensive Examination
It is very important to make sure that your equine has routine complete physical examinations. Our staff will get a chance to talk to you and see if you are having any trouble with your horse. We will also go over diet, preventative medicine, and exercise to ensure that your horse is as healthy as possible.
Here at Stephenville Equine Hospital, we are dedicated to taking good care of our patients. We are proud to offer intestinal parasite screening and deworming.
We also offer emergency surgery as well as critical care. Please attempt to call ahead in case of an emergency to alert us to the situation and allow us to prepare.
Spaying and Neutering
After giving anesthesia to your horse, we will perform the castration and make sure he wakes up fine afterward. You should keep him in a safe place by himself for a few hours until all of the anesthesia wears off. In a few days, he should be back to his normal self.
Blood work is necessary to keep your equine healthy. By performing routine blood work, we are able to monitor any changes to your horse’s kidneys, liver, blood cell counts, and much more. We can learn a lot of information with a little bit of blood.
X-Ray
Digital radiography (x-ray) has revolutionized Equine Medicine. Now we are able to quickly and easily diagnose potential causes of lameness and bone abnormalities with less stress your your horse. Digital radiography allows us to view the images immediately and to retake images or to take additional views quickly if needed. Digital radiography also gives us the ability, if needed, to electronically send the x-rays to board certified radiologists for their opinion. In addition, the images produced by digital radiography are of much better quality than film radiographs and can be manipulated digitally, giving us the best possible radiographic information to help find the diagnosis.
When purchasing a horse, it may be required that the animal have a prepurchase exam performed. This allows an equine veterinarian to examine and detect any existing or potential health issues that may affect the horse.
