Colonial Internal Medicine Associates claims "they always have a physician on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year without exception". Yet when I experienced a medical issue after hours and left several messages, I did not receive a single call back despite CIMA claiming to employ 6 physicians and 5 PAs. I have been a patient of CIMA for nearly 10 years. Their claim to always have a physician on call was one of the reasons I chose this practice. Ignoring patients when they need help is completely unprofessional and disrespectful.
I had a similar experience as collegegrad07. I found the "professionals" at this practice to be very unprofessional. I don't think their training is adequate. These people are to be avoided at all cost.
The two front desk ladies were fine. I am reviewing my experience with the nurse and Dr. Aiken. I have not read any other reviews as of yet-this is based on my recent experience in March 2013.
While the nurse was not mean, the nurse was unprofessional-commenting on the inadequacy of the facility, the lack of skills she possesses, and was not at all thorough. She would talk out loud to herself as if I were not there, and made frequent confused or exasperated facial gestures. She would say that she wishes she could go home (as in a joking way), or that the facility was too hot, and that 'they didn't hire me for my typing skills'. It made me feel like I was being taken care of someone who was not fit or characteristic of being a nurse.
This was my first time there, they had no medical records of me, nor did I fill out any medical paperwork about me. They knew nothing about me so I was planned to tell them what I could and I made a list. I had assumed that they would be going down a thorough list about my medical history, so I wanted to be prepared. The nurse rolled her eyes when she saw my list and frankly said that they will not be able to address everything on my list. Further, I came in for a physical-and then nurse changed the appointment to a problem based visit. If the nurse had just taken 3-4 minutes, I could have told her my medical background including family history while she typed it up (I have seen this at many other places). Instead, I noticed that she did not really know how to use the computer and she said out loud that she didn't know how to type in something-so she simply didn't bother.
This is after coming in a half hour early because I was told to fill in paperwork (took 2 minutes), and I was actually seen 30 min after my appointment time. I was hoping it was just an isolated event.
When I met the doctor, she didn't shake my hand, smile, or have a separate room in which to meet. In fact, she, too, seemed irritated. She met me in the examining room and faced her laptop as she spoke to me. I felt hurried, even though I had been the one waiting over an hour for this 10 minute consultation. I was able to tell her slightly more than what I told the nurse. She, too, said she would not be able to address all my issues today (I was coming in for physical and it was obvious no one cared about my medical history). Further, I was in the middle of still explaining my 'complaints' since the appointment was changed (probably 1-2 minutes of talking on my part), and she cut me off and said 'ok, I'm going to ask you the questions now'. She was blunt and uncaring.
Long story short-I came in for a physical and left feeling unheard, uncared for, and felt like I irritated them even though I was pleasant and thorough. I thought a doctor would welcome when patients take their health seriously and have a list of medical history instead of getting the answer 'I don't know' when asked about their health. This visit was a waste of time for me since less than half of the reasons why I even visited the doctor were not addressed.
They both were not exactly mean, but in my opinion were unprofessional. I am in the medical field and don't treat my own patients like that. I take the patient's concerns and time seriously and they should too. I wish I read some reviews before going there.
