He is experienced in comprehensive ophthalmology and specializes in cataracts and corneal disease. Dr. Heist graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he also completed both medical residencies. He completed his internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Heist spent 15 years in private practice before becoming Director of the Ophthalmology Residency Program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Cataract Surgery
During this time period, Dr. Ginsburg felt frustrated and helpless as doctors provided no aid, no emotional support, and little hope. Determined, Dr. Ginsburg accompanied his grandmother to Boston, where she met with one of the country’s best retina specialists at Harvard. He recommended cataract surgery, low vision aids, and visual rehabilitation to maximize her vision; but more importantly, he allayed her fear of blindness and educated her about her disease. Inspired, Dr. Ginsburg later went to Harvard and became a retina surgeon.

Blindness as a result of diabetes is preventable, but early diagnosis is crucial. Eye complications stemming from diabetes are common. If left untreated, these diabetic eye conditions can lead to deterioration of vision and ultimately, blindness.
