The Acute Care unit offers smoking cessation, dietary and medication counseling, as well as inpatient respite hospice and medical hospice services in conjunction with Housecalls and Kanawha Hospice entities. Respite services are also available to ensure patients have a safe discharge plan. In order to ensure continuity of care, the staff of the Acute Care unit will make arrangements for a patient’s transfer to another facility if a different level of services is required or if healthcare assistance will be needed once leaving our facility. The staff also works with the patient’s Primary Care Provider to create a safe transition of care back to the home environment.
Smoking Cessation
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is focused on patients with lung conditions such as COPD, emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis. The program offers education to referred patients about their diagnosed lung disease. The education component of the program includes information about disease management, breathing strategies, stress management, smoking cessation and provides the element of group support.

Emergency Care
The Emergency Department at Roane General Hospital is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. Our qualified emergency physicians and medical staff stand ready to provide the highest quality emergency care when you need it. The Emergency department provides care to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The staff treats immediate health needs from minor to serious injury, illness or disease. When necessary, critically injured or seriously ill patients are treated and stabilized in the RGH Emergency Department and then transferred by ambulance or helicopter to a more specialized facility. Patients can also be admitted to the Acute Care Unit for further treatment after receiving initial treatment in the Emergency department.
Electrocardiogram
Roane General Hospital provides general and diagnostic cardiology services on a full time basis (Monday - Friday). This includes interpretation of nuclear studies, stress testing and resting echocardiograms along with stress echo, EKG, and ambulatory monitors. We offer treatment and management of cardiac conditions including coronary artery disease, heart conditions associated with diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, vascular heart disease and congenital heart disease, among others.

The Radiology/Imaging department at Roane General Hospital uses state-of-the-art technology to perform diagnostic tests for our patients. A unique Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) produces high-quality, three-dimensional digital images of many radiological studies. These images are displayed electronically on computer screens allowing for immediate review by the providers. Images are then digitally stored in the patient’s virtual chart and can also be transferred to a CD-ROM for use in other health care settings. Roane General Hospital affiliates with West Virginia University (WVU) Cancer Institute to provide evidence-based care as well as the expertise of a multidisciplinary team which includes a medical oncologist and nurse practitioner. This affiliation allows our clinical nursing staff to train at a leading center to become chemotherapy and biotherapy certified through the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS). Our nursing staff have long standing clinical expertise in critical care and infusion therapy. In total, the team has spent 75 years at the patient bedside. Our team also includes the expertise of a pharmacist, a patient navigator, authorization and clerical staff, a clinical leader and social worker who empathize with you or your loved ones throughout the course of care and treatment.
Radiation Therapy
Together, our team, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary WVU Cancer Institute focus upon active treatment, surveillance, survivorship, palliative care, and genetic counseling. The team provides access to clinical trials, tumor board review, radiation therapy, and oncology specialty surgeons via referral to WVU. They also focus upon benign hematologic (blood diseases and disorders) as well. Such disorders include: Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Iron Deficiencies, Genetic Issues such as Factor V Deficiency, Hemochromatosis, and embolism.
In the Surgery department at RGH, our patients’ safety and comfort are our primary concerns. We provide our patients the highest level of care for their procedures, regardless of whether they need inpatient or outpatient surgery. The department provides a range of services, including general surgery, laparoscopic procedures and scopes. Operating and recovery rooms contain the high-tech equipment and instrumentation needed to allow our surgeons and anesthetists to provide the best possible care to our patients. Our Surgery department contains a three-bed holding area, a three-bed PACU area and a patient and family waiting area.

Roane General Hospital is pleased to offer orthopaedic services at our Roane General Medical Associates clinic and our operating room one day per week. With the exception of a complete joint replacement, our orthopaedic providers can diagnose, treat, and repair most conditions or injuries at RGH..
The Physical Therapy department at Roane General Hospital evaluates and treats individuals who have been affected by illness, injury or disease. Physical Therapy is designed to help achieve optimal movement, function and safety; to relieve pain; and to promote health and fitness. Our physical therapists can provide specialized treatment plans by completing a musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular evaluation. These evaluations are used to understand parameters of pain, impairment and dysfunction. The therapist can then individualize your rehabilitation and treatment program, combining information from your provider with physical therapy evaluations.
In addition to general surgical procedures, specialty providers also utilize or operating room to provide dental, urology, podiatry and ophthalmology procedures.
