Overall

Today I visited "Where's Nemo" in Spanish Fork, Utah. I am deeply concerned about the treatment of these animals, and this shop needs to be investigated at the very least. "Where's Nemo" is a very unsanitary shop with cobwebs and dirt all over.

I will start off with the fish, since they are in the front of the store. The tanks are very crowded with live, AND dead fish. The salt water tanks are not well maintained and very dirty. Next are the reptiles, many of the reptiles need heat lamps. Most of them did not. A lot of the retiles, are in way too small of tanks, and not in the correct environment either. For example, the leopard geckos need a moist environment, and they were in a dry one. The tarantulas were kept in those extra small critter carriers that people put crickets, or mice in for transportation. Going into the birds, many of the birds have feathers off of the back and front of their necks pulled out. This is not molting, this is a sign of the bird being picked on, and they have not been separated. In a small back room, and a few cages on the side of the shop, there are the rodents. In the back room, the rats and hamsters are overcrowded in VERY small, shallow cages that reeked of ammonia from lack of cleaning. In the front cages, they have dwarf hamsters that have lots of pinkies, like they haven't sexed and separated the animals. When a hamster becomes a mother, she is territorial, and they were literally fighting in the cage. Hamsters aren't supposed to be in more than a trio. Another concerning thing, by the register there is a lone dwarf hamster with the title "Evil dwarf hampster". I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be selling something you can even spell correctly. Also, no one in their right mind would want to buy a hamster that has been titled evil. In the very corner are the guinea pigs. Seeing the pet shop was bad enough, but because I am a proud owner of guinea pigs, this is what set me off. The guinea pigs were in tiny cages with BARS on the floor. Those are very painful for their feet, and can cause bumblefoot. They had no soft flooring to cushion their paws. And worst of all, the only food they had in the cage were a few slivers of ONION. Guinea pigs, along with other animals are HIGHLY allergic to onion, and it can kill them almost immediately.

Another extreme concern of mine, none of the animal feces was cleaned, and only a few animals had food and water. Most animals always need food in their cage, and they need the RIGHT food as well.

This pet shop is a death trap made in hell for animals, and it needs to either shape up extremely, or be torn down on the spot. I have never been so infuriated in my LIFE. If I could give them negative stars, they'd be in the billions.

Don't ever go here.

My wife and I where getting a 30 gallon fish tank started. We where advised to slowly add fish so the water would become ideal for the fish we bought. We had 4 fish for almost 4 months with no problems at all. We went to (Where's Nemo) to get two sucker fishes. Within 12 hours one of the sucker fish where dead, then over about a week all of our fish where dead. The owner of the store is very nice. But if you are going to get fish, or any animal you should not go here. (Jays Jungle) in Provo is a great place to buy fish and animals. All the animals at Jays Jungle are healthy, and the owner is extremely knowledgeable about animals. Go almost anywhere but here to purchase your pets.
