To Mikemc, I just was notified about your pitiful remarks. I suggest when you claim that the cold weather killed your palms and you returned them completely dried out, your first mistake was you should of watered them before returning them. Regardless what you read on the internet, Lipstick palms will definitely take upper 40's. Searle Brothers Nursery is a family owned business in its 35th year. We just recently held our 23rd annual Palm Sale in Key West, and this upcoming week our 19th Annual Spring Extravaganza Sale begins. I had a great experience at Searle Brothers Nursery. They have an amazing selection and are very helpful. I will definitely come back and recommend this nursery to everyone.

I went to Searle Brothers with a friend a few months ago. I bought 4 lipstick palms at $75 each because they are unusual and red palms should be very nice. I asked 2 workers about these because $300 is a lot of money to plunk down for some palms.
I was told that they were slow growers, etc. I was told that I should protect these if the temperature dropped below 40 degrees.
I took these home and got on the internet to make sure I would plant and take care of these correctly. I read from several sources that these would suffer damage below 55 degrees. That's a big difference and i do not want to run out and cover these every time the temp goes below 55.
I called and asked to return these. I should have been entitled to my money back but was not even asking for this. I simply wanted credit to use for other items. Not only was this request denied but Jeff treated me like I some kind of idiot. He was nasty and condescending.
I am shocked that this company is still in business. My request was quite reasonable and I got absolutely nowhere. I have seen people bring back pots full of dirt and get their money back at Home Depot. I would never do anything of that sort but I do respect a company that stands by what it sells.
There are many, many very good nurseries in So. Fla. Find one of these (look up Jessie Durko for one) and stay far away from Searle Brothers.
PS After a relatively mild winter in which I covered these below 55 the palms have been damaged and I'm not sure they will last much longer... no wonder they would not take them back... shame on you Searle Brothers.

Horrible nursery. Prices are high and the owners are rude. There are so many better nurseries around.
