The frequency of which these joints are used, and their mobility, increases the risk of injury and degenerative changes. Hip, knee, and shoulder pain can be caused by but not limited to the following: acute injuries such as sprains, strains, dislocations, tendonitis, ligament or tendon tears such as ACL, meniscus, labral tears, rotator cuff pain or tear, gait imbalances, weakened or tight muscles, joint replacement, arthritis, frozen shoulder/adhesive capsulitis, or even referred pain. Orthopedic Surgery
If you have been told you need orthopedic surgery, there are steps you can take now to recover more quickly and successfully following your procedure. In many cases, your physician will refer you for physical therapy after your operation and in some cases, as soon as 24 hours post-surgery. At OMPT Specialists, we provide FREE consultations for patients scheduled for orthopedic surgery to answer any questions they may have about their rehabilitation or actual course of physical therapy treatment both before and after the procedure.

Our physical therapists can also help you prepare for surgery by strengthening your muscles and improving your range of motion, without pain or aggravating your condition. Patients who are in better condition prior to surgery often have better outcomes and quicker recovery times following surgery. We are in-network with 99.9% of all Insurance Plans and our dedicated billing team will verify each patients insurance plan and give a detailed break-down with exactly what out-of-pocket costs the patient should expect prior to starting therapy.
Manual Therapy
Not only do our patients receive the continuity of care but they also receive quality care. Every therapist at OMPT Specialists must receive their OMPT certification. This is a certification that is provided by Oakland University to physical therapists who want an additional knowledge and skill in manual therapy. It requires physical therapists to study for 2 additional years above and beyond the regular physical therapy degrees (PT, MPT, DPT) with extensive testing and gives them an additional 200 clinical hours. Insurance companies do not reimburse us differently to have OMPT therapists, but it is our mission to have the highest quality trained therapists.
TMJ Dysfunction
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction or Disorder is pain and compromised movement of the jaw joint and the surrounding muscles. Physical therapy for TMJ disorder is a non-invasive treatment method which can serve as an adjunct to conservative anti-inflammatory therapy or occlusal guard appliances. Our physical therapists are highly skilled to treat all TMJ symptoms including lock-jaw, painful chewing, frequent headaches, pain in the facial region, and clicking/popping sounds in the jaw.
