The Southern Pines Police Department is a full-service law enforcement organization that provides services to more than 12,000 residents. The department prevents crime, maintains social order and peace, and protects residents lives and property. Established in 1887, it employs more than 45 sworn officers. The Southern Pines Police Department maintains a patrol division that is comprised of bicycle unit and special response and traffic teams. It operates a communication center that coordinates response to emergency and nonemergency calls for service and crime prevention. The department also maintains a K-9 unit that handles issues related to drug intervention, tracking, and searches for persons, property and evidence. Additionally, it operates an investigation division that conducts initial investigations, gathers evidence, interviews witnesses and suspects, prepares crime reports and presents cases for prosecution. The Southern Pines Police Department handles cases related to murder, rape, robbery, burglary and theft. In addition, it maintains records and administration divisions. The department is located in Southern Pines, N.C.
