Founded in 1997, the Boston Police Department offers a range of safety and life and property protection services. It is administered by the government of the City of Boston. The department provides night watch and day patrol solutions. It maintains radio communication system and mobile data terminals. The department operates a family justice division that has domestic violence and sexual assault units. Its internal affairs division analyzes complaint data, reviews complaint investigations, investigates the incidents of alleged police misconducts, and assists in the development of needed training modules. The department also operates a harbor unit that enforces maritime codes and environmental regulations. The Boston Police Department administers trace and crime stoppers programs.
