Misdiagnosis and Poor Treatment‎‎

After my mother being in this hospital for approximately three days due to a horse stepping on her foot she left with minimum treatment to her foot. No bandages or antibiotics were used to treat her foot which had oozing scars. Also the foot had swollen and could barely fit in her shoe. She left the hospital with treatment for her pinky toe, which was said to be fractured. Now it's two days later and she is in WakeMed receiving the treatment that she should have had five days ago. She was diagnosed with an infection in her foot, and the discolorization all over the foot might have hinted to the condition it was in. She also had multiple shots administered to treat the infection, along with bandages and a boot placed over the foot. She will be using krutchers for a few weeks. Overall avoid this hospital even if you think you're dying and it's close. You probably will have a better chance taking a longer drive to a hospital that cares.‎

Emergency Room

On 8/23/09, we were staying in a motel out by the interstate. My father fell or passed out in the bathroom and hit his head on the toilet. He is 79 and diabetic. The ambulance crew was there promptly and brought him to the ER. My mother who is disabled and I were quite distraught. Everyone we met there was kind, professional and knowledgeable. I believe our PA was Anne Marie. She ordered the apprpriate tests for him. While we were waiting for him to get a CAT scan, the lab technician walked me to the Cafe so I could get breakfast for me and my mom. I am so sorry I can't remember the nurse's name because she was wonderful . Thank goodness, all the tests came out okay and we were on our way. At no time were we rushed or ignored. I only hope my hometown hospital treats people as well.

Overall
my experience

My experience with this hospital was an interesting one. While I was being treated for a broken bone I observed many things. The facility was clean. The nursing staff was polite and caring.(The staff made me feel reassured that my care was most important to them. I did witness a couple of things that made me uncomfortable and concerned. The nurse that was taking care of me was approached by a man that I believe was her supervisor. He began to discuss with her about a survey that she had not filled out as of yet. She explained that they were very busy and she would try to get to it before her shift ended but could not stay over for fear of getting overtime. He began basically yelling at her. I thought this was outrageous. She had been pulled away from caring for her patient to be yelled at about a survey. I felt that was not necessary. I observed other situations like this one while I was there. I feel that matters like these should been held in offices and at another time away from the patient. I thought the service that the nurse provide was excellent but I wonder what goes on behind the scenes. What is more important..the patient or a survey?
