Cryotherapy
A vitreous hemorrhage occurs when one of these blood vessels ruptures and causes bleeding within the vitreous gel, causing visual symptoms. Patients with vitreous hemorrhage usually notice a sudden, significant increase in the number and size of floaters blocking their vision. Severe bleeding can also cause vision to appear blurry, cloudy or hazy. Treatment for a vitreous hemorrhage may include vitrectomy, cryotherapy, laser photocoagulation, or intravitreal injections.

Glaucoma
Patients with diabetes are at an increased risk of developing eye diseases that can cause vision loss and blindness, such as diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and glaucoma. These and other serious conditions often develop without vision loss or pain, so significant damage may be done to the eyes by the time the patient notices any symptoms. For this reason it is very important for diabetic patients to have their eyes examined once a year. Diagnosing and treating eye disease early can prevent vision loss. It is also important to maintain a steady blood-sugar level, take prescribed medications, follow a healthy diet, exercise regularly and avoid smoking.
Ophthalmology
A graduate of McGill University, Montreal, Pamela Ann Weber, M.D. went on to Columbia University College of Physicians &Surgeons. Dr. Weber completed her Post-Doctoral training as a Resident in Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, NY. She completed her Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Disease & Surgery at Schepens Eye Institute, Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Harvard University in Boston. Dr. Weber is a member of the National Register’s Who’s Who, a Castle Conelly Top Doctor and a Newsday Top Doctor. Dr. Pamela Weber is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Association of Retinal Specialists.
Macular Degeneration
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) affects 10 million Americans. It is the leading cause of vision loss for individuals greater than age 60. It affects the macula whites, a subdivision of the retina that provides our very best vision, including the ability to drive and read. The disease runs in families and is 70% genetic. Environmental factors play a role as well, such as smoking, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and sun exposure. The macula loses its ability to metabolize waste products and abnormal collections of material called duress build up in the subretinal space. The first phase of the disease is called dry. About 10% of people with dry progress to wet, which means abnormal blood vessels start to grow into the retina that oozes and cause a drop in vision. We have successful treatments, but early diagnosis is important. The first symptoms are often waviness in the vision.
Cataracts
We are offering Avastin therapy for several problems including the treatment of wet macular degeneration, macular edema associated with vein occlusion, diabetes, cataract surgery, and uveitis. It does require dilation of the pupils and it is administered as a painless eye injection in the office. A series of treatments may be required.

The vitreous is the gel-like substance that makes up approximately two-thirds of the eye’s volume and is located in between the lens in the front of the eye and the retina in the back of the eye. In normal, healthy vitreous gel, there are no blood vessels, but diseases such as diabetic retinopathy can lead to the development of new blood vessels which can grow into the vitreous gel.
