Colon Cancer
During this procedure, a colonoscope (a thin, ﬂexible tube with a camera and light on the end) is guided up the rectum and the colon under sedation. This is used to perform a thorough examination of the inside of the entire colon. We can remove colon polyps and/or take biopsies to diagnose any abnormalities. Of any form of colorectal cancer screening, colonoscopy has the best sensitivity for ﬁnding colon polyps and can prevent colon cancer by removing those precancerous polyps during the procedure. For an optimal exam, the colon must be cleaned out with a colon prep before the procedure. In addition to colorectal cancer screening, we use colonoscopy to diagnose colonic disorders such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and microscopic colitis, and also to look for causes of rectal bleeding.
Endoscopy
The Registered Nurse contributes to the company’s mission and supports the company’s values by providing safe, effective patient care during both the pre and post-operative period, in accordance with applicable standards of practice. Working independently, they will admit and educate patients for each procedure, set up procedure rooms, assist the treating physician with all endoscopy procedures, and recovery of patients post-procedure. The RN will be responsible for monitoring vitals and providing discharge information and reports as necessary.

Ultrasound
Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) allows your doctor to examine your esophageal and stomach linings, as well as the walls of your upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. The upper tract consists of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum; the lower tract includes your colon and rectum. EUS is also used to study other organs that are near the gastrointestinal tract, including the lungs, liver, gallbladder and pancreas.

Lesions
Recent studies have concluded that a fully trained gastroenterologist is more likely to detect adenomas (precancerous lesions) and remove them before they turn into cancer. Studies also show that they are much more likely to adhere to the frequency for follow-up colonoscopies stated by national guidelines, and much less likely to bring patients back too soon for follow-up procedures.
