Pet Supplies Plus

I was highly dissatisfied with my first and now last visit to the Seguin, TX. location. To start, no one was available in the fish department. I went to the register and the cashier sent an associate over. I showed the associate the fish I wanted and she proceeded to get a very small plastic container to get the fish. I advised her that the container was extremely too small for the fish I was getting and he will jump out. She ignored me and got the fish anyways. Once the fish was in the container she hung it on the side of the tank, which was the highest tank on the fish wall, and the fish jumped out and landed on the floor while she shrieked "EWW!". I took the net from her and picked up my fish while she watched. She yelled so loud that the manager Keith and the cashier came running. The girl that caught the fish was trying to figure out how to pour the fish into the bag. Keith accidentally flicked some water at her and she shrieked again (obviously she should not be allowed to step foot in the fish department). Keith then proceeded to pick up the fish with his bare hands out of the small plastic container (which ruins their slime coat and protection from diseases) and put him into the bag with no water, then poured the water in. He was about to tie the bag shut when I told him he needed to add more water since the water did not even cover the dorsal fin. Keith said that he had owned a 125 gallon tank but from his actions today it seemed as though he knew nothing about fish.

At check out I asked the cashier for a discount since my fish had fallen from the top tank and landed on the floor which could cause neurological damage and he had also been touched by Keith's hands which can harm the fish's slime coat. The girl that got my fish walked up and tried to check me out without talking to Keith, all while texting on her phone. Keith came over and said "you can return him if he dies or get any other fish you want". I told him that was not the point. I do not live in Seguin and this was the only large cichlid of its kind in the store and the one I wanted, not to mention the fact that the fish was now very stressed and susceptible to diseases because of his slime coat. Keith ignored the actual problem and walked away showing no management skills or desire to fix the situation caused by their negligence.

As a first time customer I can say that I will NOT be returning to this Pet Supplies Plus location nor will I recommend it to anyone. The staff is uneducated and inconsiderate and they obviously need more training. Not to mention the fact that the tanks were in bad condition with numerous dead fish among multiple tanks. This cichlid was expensive and very beautiful, I just hope he lives because after all that I was not about to leave him in their hands.
