DUI/DWI
You can get more than one driver's license suspension from the same DWI arrest. If you are arrested for DWI, then you face 2 separate driver's license suspensions: (1) an automatic license revocation (ALR) suspension, which occurs if it is found that there was probable cause to arrest you for DWI and you either refused to take a breath test or failed a breath test; and (2) a suspension if you are actually convicted for the offense of DWI.
Traffic Violations
Even if you have never had so much as a traffic ticket before, expect to be treated like a common criminal. Just because you have no prior criminal history, and are a "good person", it doesn't make your case go away. There is sometimes a waiting period for getting an expunction, although there is a big exception to this rule. According to Texas Law, to be eligible for an expunction you must usually apply after the statue of limitation for filing a case has expired. For example, the statue of limitations period for filing a misdemeanor case is 2 years. If you are charged with a misdemeanor, and your case is dismissed, you must usually wait until 2 years has passed from the date of your arrest to apply for an expunction. However, there is a big exception to the waiting period. If the prosecutor's office that handled your case agrees to waive the waiting period, you can apply as soon as your case is dismissed. Some prosecutors will agree to waive the waiting period.
Drug Crimes
A court is not required to explain every possible consequence of entering a guilty plea. For example, if you are convicted of Possession of Marijuana, you may receive a driver's license suspension, even if you weren't driving a vehicle when you were arrested. A judge, however, is not required to explain this possible consequence to you when you enter your guilty plea. Your lawyer should guide you through the minefield of potential bad consequences that can happen when you enter a plea.
Assault
Range of Punishment for Aggravated Assault. Aggravated Assault is an assault in which a serious bodily injury is caused or a deadly weapon is used. Aggravated Assault is a 2nd degree felony and carries a range of punishment of a fine of up to $10.000.00, anywhere from 2 years up to 20 years prison, or from between 2 to 10 years supervised probation.
