Vinyl liner replacement

We recently had a new pool vinyl liner installed by ABCO (Nick Penna). ABCO did an excellent replacement. Went the extra mile by providing a video of the liner maintenance with valuable tips to extend it's life. Our expectations were exceeded. A job well done.

Overall

ABCO truly is “A Better COmpany”

When my pool suddenly started leaking I tried for months to get the previous installer and then anyone else to come give me advice and/or an estimate. Then all at once three vendors all responded on the same day. I had all three look and offer estimates. Nick Penna at ABCO was the only one who said, “You have a leak and if I can find it you may not need a new liner for another year, maybe two.” He found a leak and patched it. When I offered to pay, he said to wait to ensure that was the problem. If that fixed the issue then send him a check for just the repair. Well, it fixed most of the leakage, but the bottom of the pool liner was brittle and still leaked some in other places. Because of his approach and that he was ~ $1,000 less than the most expensive bid (though a few hundred more than the lowest bid), I called Nick back to replace the liner. The previous repair cost was nullified; I was not charged since it did not solve the issue.

Nick had some beautiful colors and borders to select from and offered his opinion on which would hold up best for our situation. Since his original estimate had stated that ANY liner we chose was all the same price, there was no concern about pushing one color/thickness over another for profit margin.

Nick wrote me a contract that estimated 3 to 4 1/2 weeks until the job was complete. He also left information and a grid layout flyer on pool maintenance using PoolRX and granular chlorine to extend liner life. Nick spent SEVERAL hours taking detailed measurements, and later he called, said he had the liner and could he come and install it the next day. It was TWO weeks from the day he wrote the contract until he was installing the new (Gorgeous) liner. The installation is much better than the previous 2 liners and as good (maybe even better) as the original installation. His work included repairs to the provicil, step and padding, and removal of roots. After several frustrating days with my pool service I decided to resume maintenance myself. Nick came by to give me a 2-3 hour detailed “Pool School.” Beforehand Nick looked over the pool pump and found a small leak, which he insisted on fixing, no additional charge; he wanted a satisfied customer whose equipment was working up to its’ best before he left. The leak was only ~ 1 - 2 ml/minute. After the repair he said we would check it after Pool School. He looked over all of my pool maintenance tools and offered tips on maintaining and using them for best efforts, and how to prevent inadvertent damage to the liner. He looked over the chemicals and made recommendations on amounts to use, frequency and type of testing. He talked about how liners get damaged and stretched, the dangers of letting level get too low OR too high. After the education session he checked the leak on the pump, and it was still leaking, so Nick took off the previous rubber patch and used an epoxy patch instead. Excellent, excellent business practices. I am so impressed and happy that we went with ABCO/Nick.

As a side note, when I had gone to purchase my pool chemicals before “Pool School” the store owner had one of Nick’s flyers, was familiar with it and could tell me 3 or 4 other customers who had their liners replaced by Nick, all of whom were satisfied. I know that I certainly am.

exceeded expectations

Dear Nick,

Thanks for repairing our pool liner today. Great to see you after 17 years when you installed it.

Thank you so much for suggesting that we just patch the tear and not replace the entire liner until next year.

Please post this letter on you website to let others know that our pool has held up well for so many years. There is zero deterioration above the water line and the only indication that it is now brittle is the patch you placed this afternoon.

We haven't talked for years yet it seemed like we had just seen each other the other day. You are so easy to work with. Let's keep in touch and please plan on replacing my liner before the summer a year from now.
