The question often arises as to how one find’s the Best Allergist in San Antonio to meet your medical needs. An Allergist is a physician who has completed Medical Residency training in either Pediatrics or Internal Medicine followed by an additional 2 years of Fellowship training in the specialty field of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. A “Board Certified” Allergist has passed a medical certification examination and regardless of their initial residency training, they have been fully trained to provide care to both adults and children of any age. To remain Board Certified, an Allergist, must continue to train in this field by completing 20 or more hours of specialty specific educational courses each year. Most Board Certified Allergists practice medicine very similarly by following clinical guidelines called “Practice Parameters” (available on-line at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology: www.aaaai.org ). Although these guidelines were written for physicians and contain some technical language, they are an excellent source of medical information for non-physicians as well.
Primary Care
Alamo Asthma & Associates P.A. is a subspecialty clinic providing medical consultations. Our goal is to thoroughly evaluate your allergy, asthma and immunology-related problems and provide our recommendations to you and your primary care physician. Following your evaluation, you will be provided with a treatment plan which typically addresses anticipated disease flares (Available on our EMR portal). If your medical problems are not responding to our treatment you should contact us as soon as possible.

When you call our office to schedule an appointment (210-499-0033), we will provide you with a temporary user name and password required to create your web portal. We ask that you go to your portal and complete your personal profile information and list of all your current medications, your past medical history, medication allergies, family history and social history. Once this has been done, you will have future access to this information from any computer or cell phone with internet access. You can simply print a copy for any physician who sees you in your future and you can immediately provide them with a copy of your labs, X-rays, skin test results and office visit discharge instructions. Most importantly, if you need emergency care, you can make this critical medical information available to any treating physician. In addition, once you complete your portal information, we can send prescribed medications electronically directly to your preferred pharmacy. *Always keep your health file up to date.
Immunizations
When you are scheduled for an appointment, just like with a hotel reservation, that time slot is made unavailable to any other person. Unlike many other Physicians, we do not overbook or double book appointments. This is our commitment to you to help ensure that you are seen on time and receive the utmost in personal attention. Scheduling an appointment is also a commitment to us that you will use our resources. If you do not show up as planned, we have lost the opportunity to provide our services to another patient. Patient “No Shows” are why most other physicians overbook appointments to avoid having unused “open” appointment slots, and why you must often wait for hours to be seen in other practices. To help us avoid resorting to this practice, you must cancel any appointment at least 24-hours in advance. For anyone who is cancelled by us for not arriving on time, or for “no shows”, regardless of the reason, a $60.00 deposit will be required before you are allowed to re-schedule. We reserve the right to terminate our doctor-patient relationship with anyone who is abusing appointments (more than two no-shows). An appointment will not be necessary to receive allergy shots or any immunization at our clinic.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Mike attended medical school in Richmond, VA, at the Medical College of Virginia from 1980 to 1987 where he received both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees with his graduate studies concentrating in immunology. He was trained in internal medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He completed his training in 1995 in allergy, asthma, and immunology at the University of Texas Health Science Center. In addition, Dr. Vaughn is board certified in emergency medicine and practiced as an ER physician in the Baptist Hospital system until 2004. Dr. Vaughn has been a clinical associate professor at UTHSC-SA since 1995. In 2022, The “Top Doctors in San Antonio” magazine published peer voting results identifying Dr. Michael Patrick Vaughn as one of the top 4 “Allergy and Immunology” Specialists in San Antonio

Dr. Adrianne, maiden name DeWalt, grew up in San Antonio. She attended Incarnate Word High School and St. Mary's University. She completed her medical training at the University Health Science Center in San Antonio as well. For pediatric training she left Texas for Miami, Florida, but returned as soon as possible to train in allergy, asthma, and immunology at the University Hospital in San Antonio in 1994. She married Dr. Mike in 1995, the Vaughn's have two children, Ian and Ryan. Dr. Adrianne Vaughn has been employed by several other San Antonio allergists to assist in their practices intermittently. She has worked with Dr. Dale Wood, Dr. Paul Ratner, Dr. Mika Cole, Dr. Miguel Martinez, Dr. Robert Jacobs, Dr. Raiqua Arastu, Dr. Anna Ortiz, Dr. Regan Hicks, Dr. Frank Hampel, and Dr. Bruce Martin. She is the physician co-director for Camp Broncho, which is sponsored by the American Lung Association. In 2021, the “Scene In S.A.” magazine published their list of the “Best S.A. Doctors”. Dr. Adrianne Vaughn was voted one of the two best Allergy & Immunology Doctors.
