Teeth Cleaning
Children are familiar with going to a physician’s office and occasionally associate that visit with getting a shot in the arm. Simple dental cleanings do not involve anything scary. Bringing kids in when they are younger, it is less likely they will have decay. And, when cavities are found small enough, they can be corrected without anesthesia and no harm to the child. If the first visit is put off until work needs to be done, the experience can be scary and unfamiliar.
Dental Sealants
Teeth have grooves, valleys, and pits on the biting surface. They are designed that way for optimal interlocking with the opposite teeth and food deflection. But in most teeth, these grooves are too narrow and small for toothbrushes to effectively remove stuck debris. This can lead to increase cavities; even with proper oral hygiene. Sealants are a plastic resin that bonds to the tooth. They are placed on the chewing surfaces of the back to protect them from plaque and acids.

Fillings
Amalgam Fillings - Also know as silver fillings, amalgam fillings have been the standard filling material in the past. It's composed of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and other metals. They are a tried and tested material to last in the mouth. However, they are unsightly and can expand slightly with temperature changes causing cracks in the teeth. We recommend leaving a silver filling alone if there are no problems such as cracks or decay. But we often replace these fillings because patients prefer tooth-colored fillings.
Veneers
Dental veneers are a thin layer of restorative material placed over the front surface of the tooth. Porcelain or composite material is used to mask imperfections or change the shape and angle of the tooth. Due to its more life-like appearance and higher resistance to stain, porcelain is more commonly placed.
Crowns
At Highland Heights dental we provide both Cerec Same-day crowns as well as traditional crowns that take a couple of days for the dental lab to build to fit. Bridges
Most famous for his midnight ride before the battles of Lexington and Concord. He was skilled as a silversmith and was known to place ads in a Boston newspaper offering services as a dentist. A good friend and patriot colonel, Dr Joseph Warren, was killed in the Battle of Bunker Hill. His body was placed in a mass grave until unearthed by family members 10 months later. Revere was able to identify the decomposed body by a wire in dental bridge he made for his patient. Revere is known to be the first person to use dental forensics.

Teeth can break due to decay, trauma, fractures, or multiple other reasons. If we cannot give you several good years out of restoring a broken tooth, we would recommend an extraction. Don’t worry. It’s not the end of the world to lose a tooth. Bridges or dental implants can replace a missing tooth. Another way to replace multiple missing teeth is dentures or partials. Nearly everyone needs their wisdom teeth extracted. The reason why is that we don’t lose our teeth as quickly as we did years ago before modern restorative dentistry. Wisdom teeth are extracted while the patient is sedated to make the patient as comfortable as possible. We recommend extracting wisdom teeth in the late teens because the teeth are easier to remove and patients heal faster.

Root Canal Treatment

A small titanium post is surgically placed in the missing area. After about 2-6 months, the bone fuses to the implant for maximum strength

Braces are not just for kids. Orthodontics may be needed if teeth are crooked, crowded, or do not meet properly. Braces may be your option to preserve your smile.
Braces
Can mouth guards be used with braces? Definitely. A little more care is taken to avoid the brackets. They are highly recommended after braces because they adapt closer to the teeth.

Teeth Whitening
You may simply improve your smile by whitening your teeth. The best results of whitening your teeth are done with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is the active whitening agent. It is not the same stuff you get at the store in the brown bottle. That’s 2% hydrogen peroxide and at that percentage will only kill bacteria and not whiten teeth. Also, pay attention to the product before looking at the percentage of the product. One-third of carbamide peroxide breaks down to hydrogen peroxide. So 15% carbamide peroxide will break down or is equivalent to 5% hydrogen peroxide. Carbamide peroxide is used in products that desired to have a longer shelf-life.
