Emergency Care
When you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from balance billing. In these cases, you shouldn’t be charged more than your plan’s copayments, coinsurance and/or deductible.

Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
Sometimes the doctors will want to perform gonioscopy to clearly evaluate the angles at the front of the eye to determine if the drainage system is working correctly, which can also affect intraocular pressure. This test is performed by the doctor at the slit lamp microscope with a special mirrored lens that is held to the front of the eye. Gonioscopy is usually done once a year on patients with glaucoma, but can be done more frequently at the doctor’s discretion.

Laser Eye Surgery
Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in the world. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye. Our cataract surgeons can remove the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial lens that restores clear vision. We perform cataract surgery at Salem Laser and Surgery Center, our outpatient eye surgery center.

LenSx is a new technology for cataract removal. It is a laser that performs part of the procedure for people with astigmatism. Your surgeon will discuss this option with you at the preoperative evaluation.

Eye Exam
Fundus/Disc Photos -Nidek Non--Mydriatic Fundus Camera - This test is often done in addition to a routine eye exam to screen for eye diseases. Your eye doctor may also order it if you have a condition that affects your blood vessels, such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Ophthalmoscopy may also be called funduscopy or retinal examination.

He earned his medical degree at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. There he completed his internal medicine internship and his ophthalmology residency.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetes is a systemic disease that can damage the eyes. We perform annual exams on people with diabetes to look for findings of retinopathy, an eye disease caused by diabetes that can cause vision loss. We treat diabetic retinopathy with laser and other treatments that are among the most effective treatments in all of medicine.

Ultrasound
If a patient is interested in scheduling cataract surgery, they schedule an appointment with our surgery coordinator. The patient will be scheduled for a pre-op appointment to obtain measurements and go over instructions for their surgery. These measurements include ultrasound or manual keratometry, corneal topography, and A-Scan. These measurements together help the doctor make accurate decisions regarding the lens he will use to replace the natural lens in the eye affected by the cataract.
Radiology
When you receive services from an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgery center, certain providers may be out-of-network. In these cases, the most these providers may bill you is your health plan’s in-network cost-sharing amount. This applies to emergency medicine, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, laboratory, neonatology, assistant surgeon, hospitalist, and intensivist services. These providers cannot balance bill you and cannot force you to sign a consent and give up your protections.
