To be successful in a medical malpractice case, it must be shown that a patient-doctor relationship existed; that the doctor breached the standard of care for the particular type of treatment or operation; and that but for this breach of care, the patient would not have been injured. In medical malpractice cases, the doctor, the hospital and any support medical staff may be named as defendants.
