Regular dental cleanings – once every six months for adults – are essential for the maintenance of one’s oral health. Dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar, allow for the detection of such problems as tooth decay and structural weakness in the teeth in their earliest, most treatable stages, and keep the mouth fresh and healthy.

When you go to the store to look for floss, chances are you’ve been overwhelmed by the large variety to choose from. I typically recommend that my patients try a few different types of floss to discover what works best for them. In general, unwaxed floss has been considered the best because the individual filaments of the floss typically clean more effectively than waxed floss where the filaments are bound together. For patients that have crowns or bridges I recommend waxed floss. If you have problems controling the floss, reaching posterior teeth, or dexterity issues, floss handles make the process much easier. Interdental brushes are good for patients that have problems with recession or for getting under bridges. While waterpiks are not a substitution for flossing, they do help to supplement. I recommend that patients use Listerine in the water reservoir rather than plain water. They are especially good at cleansing under bridges.
Bridges

Root Canal Treatment
A crown is a protective covering that is bonded or cemented onto your tooth. It is custom made in a dental laboratory by highly trained technicians. A crown may be recommended for a tooth that has a large filling, a root canal, or a fracture. A bridge is 3 or more crowns that are linked together. Bridges are typically recommended to span a gap created by a missing tooth or teeth. They help to provide a continuous chewing surface, help to keep teeth from drifting out of position, and improve esthetics.

Deep Cleaning
• If you are diagnosed with Periodontal Disease, your oral health needs are more complicated, thus need more attention. You are no longer a candidate for a “Two Simple cleaning” and would require a deep cleaning. The deep cleaning (Scaling and root planning) would be covered under the 15% discount but the remainder would be paid out-of-pocket at time of service. It would be necessary to have a “periodontal maintenance” cleaning at the frequency determined by Dr. Wilson. Two periodontal maintenance cleanings can count towards your “Two Simple Cleanings”.
