X-rays
Before recommending root canal therapy we collect a thorough history of any symptoms and perform an examination including dental x-rays. This helps us accurately diagnose any tooth that may need root canal therapy.

Teeth cleaning (also known as prophylaxis), is a procedure for the removal of tartar (mineralized plaque) that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach in routine tooth brushing.
Fluoride Treatment

Fillings
The public concern about the toxicity of amalgam fillings is a controversial topic. Dental amalgam does contain mercury, which can release a low level of mercury vapor that can be inhaled. High levels of mercury vapor exposure have been associated with adverse effects in the brain and kidneys. Based on the best scientific evidence available, the FDA at this point has ruled that amalgam fillings are safe for adults and children ages 6 and above. Crowns
When the crown or bridge is fabricated, the dentist removes the patient's temporary restoration, and tries on the crown or bridge to verify fit and patient approval. Once the restoration is adjusted and approved, the dentist uses a luting cement or an adhesive bonding agent to permanently secure the final restoration.

Jaw Surgery
Corrective Jaw Surgery: Corrective jaw or orthognathic surgery is performed in which the upper jaw, lower jaw and chin may be repositioned to correct minor and major skeletal and dental irregularities, including the misalignment of jaws and teeth which can improve chewing, speaking and breathing. Difficulty chewing or biting food, excessive wear of teeth, a receding chin, a protruding jaw or sleep apnea may indicate the need for corrective jaw surgery.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. Tooth Extractions
Most children have lost all their baby teeth by age 13 and by the end of their teen years the jaw bones will harden and no longer continue to grow. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction and the possibility of oral surgery. As a child, receiving early orthodontic treatment can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, leaving little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.
Bone Grafting
Patients who successfully pass a screening and evaluation can be considered as candidates for implant replacement. The primary limiting factor inherent in implant therapy is the amount of bone available to receive and support the implant. If it's determined that a patient does not have enough bone to support an implant restoration, bone-grafting procedures may be considered. Heavy smoking and some medical conditions may preclude the use of implant therapy.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Kathleen Ong is excited to join the 1st Dental and Orthodontics team. Dr. Ong earned her Bacherlor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Stony Brook University in New York. She attained her degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery at University of Southern California and has training in all areas of general dentistry which includes implant restoration, cosmetic dentistry and advanced dental technology, such as CAD-CAM. Dr. Ong believes in helping the community and provides dental care to underserved areas in Ensenada, Mexico during her free time. She enjoys watching movies and trying out different restaurants with her husband.
General Dentistry
Dr. Aditi Shah is originally from Canada. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2005 and completed a post graduate residency program for Advanced training in General Dentistry at the University of Florida in Jacksonville in 2006. Dr. Shah completed the Western Regional Board exam and is licensed to practice dentistry in Texas. She has been practicing dentistry in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2007. Dr. Shah lives with her husband and two kids, a little boy and a little girl, in Irving, Texas. She enjoys reading, movies and travel.
