Johns Hopkins University, founded in 1876, was one of the first research universities in the United States, founded to advance students' knowledge, and also to advance human knowledge through discovery and scholarship. The university has ventured from its home in Baltimore to other locations in the United States and worldwide, including a campus in Rockville, Md. Established in 1988, its enrollments have increased to more than 5,000 students, for over 40 degree and certificate degrees, including some masters and doctoral programs in public health and health science, as well as limited programs in business, engineering and arts and sciences. The courses include child health, management in public health, environmental health sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology, finance, master of business administration, computer science, bioinformatics and biotechnology.
