Bloomingdale Academy

My children went there in the 1980's my grandchildren still attend the Academy. I meet so many people who attended as children and now bring their kids there. This is the best child care center in Hillsborough county, bar none.

This "preschool" is a joke. The Director/Teacher is not very personable. In fact, she's just not nice at all! My child was no more prepared for kindergarten then my two year old and it showed once he started. I have no idea what they do there for half a day but they certainly didn't learn. Another one of my friends had a child attend there said the same thing, her son was not kindergarten ready and didn't learn much there. Both of kids struggled at the beginning of kindergarten because they were considered "behind" for the common core standards. They do not inform you at all of what is going on the classroom, they rarely have classroom parties, they do NOT want parent involvement and you have no idea what your child is doing/learning there. I was shown my child's state test scores once and supposedly they are tested 4x's throughout the year. This is NOT a fun, exciting learning environment. The only positive thing I have to say about this "school" is that the secretary makes it look better than what it really is. She's on top of her job and if you want to know anything, you have to ask her. B/c the director/teacher is "too busy" to talk. She seriously needs to retire b/c she made my child HATE school before he even started kindergarten! You also aren't allowed to pick your child up from the classroom, which I think is really weird. They bring them out to you while you stand in a hallway in a separate part of the building. It's pretty obvious they don't want anyone knowing what's going on there. Most preschools encourage parent involvement and this place STRONGLY discourages it. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Not to mention the director tried to tell my son was ADHD *which is a major NO NO by professional teachers*, he couldn't see and needed glasses! He does NOT have ADHD, which was confirmed by his pediatrician. His poor eyesight was the issue, not his behavior.
