Chang Karate School

Don't listen to the other reviewer. She probably thought CHang was one of those soft americanized karate studios that is only there for fun and fitness. Chang is a little more serious than most karate studios and it teaches actual self defense. It isn't easy, and in order to teach proper self defense and discipline, sometimes a little toughness is needed. this is something a lot of americans do not realize and i can tell that the previous review fits into this category. Her daughter gets hurt in a karate class and she's all up in arms ready to sue. This person is probably the kind of person who sues because she spills hot mcdonalds coffee on herself without knowing it would be hot. I am very to sorry to hear about her daughter's health ailment, but with a little research, this reviewer may have noticed that her daughter would have been better placed in tiger schullmans karate or little dragon karate. As a former student of Chang karate, I can say that it is a little bit expensive, and the cost is what kept me from continuing my training. But then again, most martial arts studios are pretty pricey.

I enrolled my 14 year old child in Mr. Chang's school and at the time of our interview I explained to him that she has a disability called Asperger's Sydrome which makes her extra sensitive to touch and noise. I explained I was apprehensive about enrolling her because of her disability and he assured me that he had MANY kids like her and she would be fine. I then proceeded to write him a $640.00 check for six months. She only made it through three lessons and the third came out crying and hurt. I took her to the doctor and he concurred that she was unable to attend and it would hurt her rather than help. I notified Mr. Chang and he told me he would not give me a refund. He said he never gives refunds. I got him the doctors note and he told me that he had a lawyer and I would never get the money. I then contacted Consumer Affairs in Burlington County, NJ and they have taken my case. I just wanted to warn parents that if there is any reason your child or you don't fit into "his" classes, you will loose a lot of money. The $640.00 was the smallest amount to join. It goes into thousands. He was very rough with my daughter and hurt her physically and emotionally and really just did not care about his community. Thanks.
