I Graduated From SMU Law School and was admitted to the Texas Bar Association in 1969. I am currently licensed to practice in the State Courts in Texas, before the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas, the United States Court Of Appeals 5th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. I am currently a member of the Alternate Dispute Resolution Section (Chair 1998), Family Law and Wills and Probate Sections of the Dallas Bar Association. I am currently a member of the ADR, , Family and Probate Sections of the Collin County Bar Association. I am also a member of the Association of Attorney-Mediators where I served as the President of The North Texas Chapter in 2002 and 2003. I am also a member of The Texas Association of Mediators where I served as the Director From 2000-2002. I am AV rated By Martindale Hubbell. I've been in the private practice of law since January of 1974. Since 1992, my practice has been primarily devoted to divorce or family law, wills and probate and mediati on in these areas. In a divorce case or a family law matter, I make every effort to minimize conflict between my client and his or her spouse. Especially where there are children involved, I strive to negotiate an agreement that is acceptable to my client and that will, hopefully, enhance the prospect of the future cooperation between mother and father that will be so important to the development of the children. My goal, always, is to avoid the court room. I will try, in negotiations with opposing counsel, to reach an agreement. If negotiations are not successful, I will make every effort to schedule mediation with a qualified family law mediator in hopes that a settlement will be reached. Most family law courts in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area will require mediation before they will allow the parties to actually try the case. Settlements reached through negotiation and/or mediation tend to minimize the financial financial cost to the parties and maximize the future cooperation for the benefit of the children. Most of my wills and probate practice consists of advising and drafting wills, durable and medical powers of attorney and directives to physicians for clients and, probating wills when a client has passed away. There are times, unfortunately, when people pass away without a will and it becomes necessary to administer the estate of the decedent. Occasionally, will contests take place. Again, my goal is to negotiate a settlement amongst the contesting parties. I will endeavor to schedule mediation with a qualified wills and probate mediator in hopes that a settlement will be reached. Most of my mediations are court-annexed with attorneys present. Occasionally, however, a couple comes to me before they hire attorneys and try to work out an agreement. I always welcome the opportunity to be a peace-maker between the opposing sides.
