It has been night and day post opp with Dr. Schuler vs my last Dr. There was limited post opp pain and I had all of the feeling back down my arm. Can not recomend him more

I have been seeing Dr. Nguyen for 4 years now. He listens to me and never rushes through our appointments. He truly makes me feel like I am a person and not a number. My physical problems and pain levels fluctuate constantly which would make some others give up (this has happened to me 2x previous times before coming here). Not Dr. Nguyen....he often sits back, pulls up the images/history and says "Ok, let's start over and look at this differently". How many other doctors can you think of that do that?

I have worked with Dr. Nguyen for years on chronic pain issues.

He has always listened, understood and suggested actionable items. He has always provided me with a feeling of hope and followed it up with actions that justify that hope.

Dr. Nguyen clearly stays up-to-date on new research and works it in as it is warranted.

I have been seeing Dr Schuler for about 5 years, this visit was no different than the rest of my appointments - clear, helpful, reassuring and concise. We planned next steps and always have a plan created before leaving.

I have been a patient of Dr. Nguyen since 2007 for pain management. He is the reason I continue to come to VSI even though VSI is out of network. The best quality about him that keeps me coming back is he treats the person as a whole not just where I am experiencing pain. He explains to me options NOT just in medical terms but in a way that I can understand. Never rushes me and has a wonderful way of communicating by connecting with me. I honestly can say that if doctors would take the time to connect and have a conversation with their patient VS. TELLING people would feel more valued and know that the patient and the doctor work together to be solution based. When one is in pain it is scary but he takes the fear away from me so my care is manageable in my mind. He is the best !!!!

Six years ago, I had serious back issues with my neck and my low back from 20 years as a Green Beret. I did a lot of research on spinal surgeons, as I didn't want just anyone touching my spine. VSI has amazing surgeons, Pain Management, Physical Therapy, and R&D. Dr. Schuler leads all of this. Dr. Schuler did all the testing and therapy, but in the end I needed surgery. He did both my neck and low back. Best decision I ever made. I was pain free for the first time in many years thanks to Dr. Schuler and was able to resume working out, playing golf, and a lot of travel.

Recently, I had another disc that deteriorated and ruptured. Even though I no longer live in the area, there is no one I trust more than Dr. Schuler and traveled back to have him do another low back fusion with amazing next gen technology!

From the minute you walk into the Virginia Spine Institute you know you will be in good hands from the beautiful office to the polite front desk staff. The assistants, PAs and Drs are all kind, understanding and patient while you explain your issues and pain. Once you are in the examination room the Drs and staff take their time to explain and guide you on your custom path to wellness. I haven't felt this good in 3 years!

I came to VSI with a failed fusion, painful hardware, and nerve pain in my right leg. My quality of life was terrible. I could not even go to the grocery store due to my pain level. I lived like this for 4 1/2 years. I was told by other doctors that there was no treatment for me except pain management. Now I'm 7 months post op and I could not be happier. I met Doc Schuler during my first appointment at the Virginia Spine Institute and learned more about my back, discs, scoliosis, symptoms and treatment options than I had learned in a year of seeing other doctors and specialists. I could not stand for more than two minutes when I came through the door. I was at a pain level 9+. Throughout several treatments and appointments (and even a phone call directly with him), I was able to understand why physical therapy and shots were not managing my pain: my problems were mechanical, unique due to my spinal curve, genetics and deteriorating discs. Doc Schuler and his team explained the details and expectations of the suggested surgery with confidence and clarity that gave me the strength to pursue it. They performed two surgeries on me at Reston Hospital in the same week and walked me through recovery in the days and weeks after, taking as much time as I requested. I've never been in a doctor's office where I felt so important and supported.

Dr. Schuler and his team work together to integrate a quality care experience focused on the patient. From detailed and timely imaging, to coordination with health care providers (health insurance, primary care doctors, specialists, and Reston Hospital) everything moved forward in a smooth, supportive and productive manner. I will certainly refer others to the amazing team.

Truly life-changing experience. Before surgery I was almost completely inhibited to no, and I mean almost zero, walking or standing. Now it's like I'm in my early 20s again. Great experience from pre-op to surgery to post-op follow-up visits. If you are thinking of getting spine surgery, this is the place to go... truly a 10 out of 10!!
